I will never understand why a supposed $800 laptop doesn't have a Backlit Keyboard. Great specs otherwise. Costco has a laptop for $399.99 which includes a backlit keyboard. https://www.costco.com/Lenovo-Ide...72259.html
Grabbed this for my wife a few days ago. Her 7 year old laptop has been causing issues.

I always have issues finding a laptop at this price with 16GB AND 512GB SSD. Seems they cut a corner on one or the other. Or you get both and the CPU is a crappy Celeron or a 3+ year old CPU with low res screen.

Not sure why everyone is about backlit keyboards. Yeah they look cool in the dark, but turn on a light and problem solved. My wife specifically asked for a laptop without a backlite keyboard.

I saw the one at Costco this morning you're talking about. Which seems better for general use? This one had more ram right? I'm not familiar with most computer specs

The Costco cpu is about 20% slower than the best buy and Costco also has less of the same speed ram. What am I missing?

Yeah. Not backlit is a real bummer. Why?

IdeaPad build quality is garbage, shop for a ThinkPad is my advice!

How does this deal compare to the $430 deal from Bestbuy that I just ordered a few days ago (Asus Vivobook 16", Ryzen 7 5800hs, 12GB ram, 512 SSD)?

Depends on what you want. A Sentra or Corolla is not a BMW, not nearly as nice etc. However, both are fine & provide excellent service. My IdeaPad is perhaps 6-7 years old. It's not a ThinkPad nor a Latitude, but it gets the job done.

In my opinion, 12GB RAM (Costco) is plenty for general use. But the 1080p screen and backlit keyboard on the Costco model are huge quality-of-life upgrades for a laptop that is going to be used as an actual laptop.

Ideapads are...fine. If you're rough on laptops or you actually move it around a lot (travel, etc) I'd rather have a refurbished ThinkPad or Dell Latitude for the same price (or less).

Still think the Acer deals are really good. This one is still available. It is refurbished.

Touch, backlight keys, thunderbolt 4, intel probably better than amd, and aluminum cover.

I used to think that until I got into the (perhaps bad) habit of using my laptop while watching TV with my wife. She loves those home buying shows which bore me to tears. Of course we watch TV with the lights dimmed so a backlit keyboard helps out immensely....I'd never buy another laptop without backlighting.

Other use cases:
-dorm room or shared bedroom where the other person might not be too happy with you having the lights on while they were trying to sleep.
-planes, trains, and automobiles
-while hacking...makes you look cooler!

Why limit the selection to a laptop without backlighting? You can always turn off the backlighting if you did not want it. There is no downside to it being then but not being used. Hate for you to miss out on a deal when it can be turned off with a button press.
