And use a referral when creating an account to get $10 in Tello Dollars which can be redeemed for the second month.

In addition to good customer service, Tello has great flexibility if you want to bump up to a higher data plan for just one month, then drop back down. Plus if you manually renew a day early, the unused data will roll to the next month.

Visible has their basic unlimited plan at $25/month for years, the only thing that this Tello plan beats Visible is, you can use all high speed data for hotspot while Visible only allows you to use 5GB for hotspot.

Also, Helium mobile has $20/month unlimited plan.

Lastly, if you still want to get your monthly phone bill lower, you can go to costco and get the $10/month T-Mobile hotspot plan, and a $5/month hello mobile basic plan, use both in a dual sim phone, so you can get unlimited data/calling/text at $15/month.

If you don't need unlimited plan, as of now I think the ultra mobile 3GB monthly plan for $10/month is the best. Please note that it doesn't include the tax and other fees, so it will be about $12 per month actually.

Also, data + unlimited texting plans dropped. 2GB for $6 now, 1GB for $5.

However, the slow data after blowing through your allotment is now gone.

Good to see competition bringing prices down.

I used to have Tello, and my only complaint is they abruptly ended their Pay As You Go plan I had and forced me into a higher priced one (this was several years ago), so I left for a better offer elsewhere.

You can keep a few dollars in paygo and just do $5/mo 1GB data and unlimited text. Use GV for most of calling.

Don't forget to get a referral for $10 when signing up.

That's a good suggestion but it's still more than I need. I'm on the $30/yr Redpocket plan now which is plenty for me and half what Tello would be. I used to pay Tello $10-$20 per year as needed, but they got greedy and lost a customer.
Red Pocket is horrible. Zero customer service and their web site blows chunks.

Am I correct that this is post paid therefore there will be higher state and federal taxes compared to most prepaid?

This is prepaid. I don't pay any taxes on my data/text only plan. The taxes on plans with minutes vary by state.

They got rid of the unlimited "2g" internet on all plans now. So if you use your data allotment, thats it. Before you could get the 500mb plan and still use the 2g speeds to get basic things done.

Does this still apply if you have been on their plans since last year?

Yeah, as of the other day when they launched these new plans they killed the unlimited 2g data. From what I've read that even killed it for folks in their current billing cycle under the "old plan".

Moving my kids to H2O due to killed unlimited data. So long, tello. As per my research h2o is the last one who offers usable "2g" data.
Ps. Redpocket "2g" data is unusable. Plus many reports with issues to get full speed back after new period.

Was with Tello for a couple of years, no complaints, excellent service... Got a better deal at Mint, service is excellent.
