How do these compare in comfort to something like Aisics Gels?

Still good for walking, or should I be looking for a different Hoka line?

I'm also wondering the same thing. From reading reviews, it seems like the weight is a bit higher than most would like, but the cushioning is quite dramatic (personal preference if you like that I guess). Many mentioned that the stack height is dramatically high, so you may or may not like how much you'll feel like you're floating higher than normal.

Anyone have more info on how these are for general walking and less hiking?

Ridiculously large looking trail runners but also the most comfortable of all trail running shoes that I have tried. At 200lbs, the sole is extremely springy, literally feels like there is a large spring under the heel, even after~150 miles of trails. In for a backup pair.

A high stack is part of the Hoka experience though. Almost all their shoes are like that. It feels foreign at first, but you do get used to it pretty quickly and eventually won't even notice it due to how comfortable they are.

Haha I don't think casual hoka buyers care.

True. If it's on sale it won't matter. xD
