This is the LSX first version which suffered from lots of connections issues, especially with Apple AirPlay.
This is gen one. You can easily find used + good condition at around 300-400.
Great deal from a reputable source.

Sony Phillips Digital Interface is ancient tech from the 80s. Hobbyists and budget Chi-fi gear kept it alive. It's been long replaced by HDMI that can carry a wider bandwidth signal.

Regarding delay, It depends on the transceiver and receiver and type of connection (coax PCM, or optical Toslink). Coax PCM won't have a delay once it's locked, because it's already a clocked digital signal (the host still has to take a very brief moment to lock sampling and bit rates). Optical is worse. The transceivers convert light pulses back into PCM signals, and it buffers.

This has optical input. You will have a delay.

It may not be noticeable to you, but there is an inherent, unavoidable delay.
I'm not sure what you are talking about. HDMI has nothing to do with SPDIF and isn't a sensible comparison.

A quick review of various SPDIF chipsets indicate direct digital conversion, no buffering and propagation delays on the order of tens of nanoseconds.

Even if there was many bytes of "buffering" in the SPDIF to PCM conversion it would still be well below what we were discussing which was "SPDIF won't have any perceptible delay, certainly not 100s of milliseconds".

Now of course you could conceiver of an interface with DSP and substantial buffer that is terribly designed but it has nothing to do with an even mediocre implementation of SPDIF to analog signal.

If anything HDMI would be WORSE as the digital signal processing required to manage packets and audio frames are far more complex than a basic optical to PCM to analog converson.

Thanks for the input in any case I guess. spelling out SPDIF and it's development date did make you sound super smart!

You can wire them together with ethernet. One port says network and the other says to slave. I'm not sure if that is only for firmware updates or non wifi use or if you can keep them wired and use the wifi features. The instructions are not very clear.
They pair together in stereo either via Ethernet or wireless but the bitrate drops if wireless.

There is no way an SPDIF input would be several hundred milliseconds delay unless something is very very broken

Whatever the output is likely had an issue?

It doesn't have a wired way to communicate with the other speaker, at least not that I see. It would be nice to be able to remove wireless completely and get rid of the sync issues.

If they have another product that is a similar size, I am all ears.

The cat6 rj45 Ethernet network cable can be used.

Don't buy these. These are version 1 and they have wireless audio dropout and the speakers dying suddenly. I bought two pairs back in 2019 I think, one from
Best Buy another from eBay. The Best Buy unit died within 16 months and was replaced by Best Buy, the eBay unit has connectivity issues but it cannot be returned anymore. My Best Buy unit was used as a 2.1 channel speaker system. It had been replaced with the passive LS50 Meta plus SB3000 with the receiver handling the crossover / bass management.

They would be great, using the analog input. Coaxial speakers, and KEFs in general have pinpoint imaging and are amazing for nearfield listening. Put them up ear level on desk stands if possible.

If you connect wireless or even spdif digital input, there would be a slight delay from your actions on the screen. Probably not drastic. But a few hundred milliseconds. Bluetooth would be worse.

Edit: I forgot these don't have an analog connection between the two speakers (speaker wire) until another comment pointed it out.

You must use Ethernet or wifi for the other speaker. This will add slightly more delay.

Hard pass for desktop / gaming.

With all due respect, there is no noticeable delay using optical cable. Few hundred millisecond is very noticeable and when I used these via optical cable I didn't notice any delay while playing FPS games.

Can you please describe the connectivity issues and audio dropouts? Did you connect them to each other with an Ethernet cable?

Have these speakers as computer/office speakers on my desk. I use them with Spotify and with Amazon Music HD for wireless music playing and connected to a SB AE-7 soundcard in desktop for gaming and other desktop listening. The speakers sound amazing but I do use a sub. KF92 sub specifically which is way overkill for office space but does a great job for its size. I keep both speakers connected to each other wired vs. wirelessly so yes you can do that with these. On primary speaker there is two RJ45 inputs one of which is for connecting to the secondary speaker. the accessories4less site is an officially supported outlet site for KEF per their website. Its where I originally ordered my speakers from.
