8 GB is soldered in place. The other 8 GB is in the form of a replaceable sodimm. I believe it can be replaced with a 32 GB module for a total of 40 GB, but I would verify that it can accept modules larger than 16 GB.

Thanks, looked up on ASUS's site that it can only accept 16 gigs, so you'd end up with 24 gigs memory, not too bad for a laptop

I'm just going off of reviews on YouTube that show with the heat sensor that even the 4050 model gets warmer than you'd expect. Some don't care about that stuff because "all gaming laptops get hot" but it's worth pointing out when other laptops, like the 14.5" Legion Slim OLED with the 4060 have better thermals than this. The G14 has always been plagued by thermal issues because of its form factor and being a gaming laptop, and tweaking it by disabling boost etc can help, but now we're seeing gaming laptops of the same size being better in the thermal department, so, yea, it's something that I point out.

But it's really up to whether or not you find it bothersome. Personally, when I go into a store and lay my hand down on the keyboard of a laptop that's sitting there doing absolutely nothing on idle I don't want to feel the heat that I do from the G14. That's my opinion and I'll always get downvoted for it.

Keep in mind that the 14.5" Legion Slim is a fair amount larger than this G14. Total volume (LxWxH) on the Legion is 106 inches vs 80 inches on the G14. I ordered both last month and was happier with the smaller form factor of the G14 vs having better thermals.

Does anyone know if this model of G14 has the same ability to tweak the power limits and such like the higher end G14 that goes for $1299 right now? I feel like this would suit my needs for casual World of Warcraft classic gameplay and media consumption device with that really nice screen.

That's not how it works. The 4090, 4080, 4070, 4060, and 4050 models of the Asus G14 all run with a max TGP of 125 watts and therefore the 4050 model does not generate less heat. In fact it's the opposite because the 4060 and 4070 models can do more work at the same wattage and so too can the 4080 and 4090 models once you get above 60 watts. Basically the more GPU cores you have the lower the frequency they have to run at to achieve a given performance level and therefore the higher the energy efficiency in games. This all works out because there is a non-linear relationship between frequency and power consumption that becomes especially evident when you push hardware near its limits.

Moreover, there's nothing wrong heat-wise with these machines. In fact they are an improvement over the previous AMD based models with surface temperatures 5 - 10C cooler.

Hey I had that model. Unless you are itching to play the newer games in higher quality, you have a solid laptop. I still regret selling mine

Are these reviews of the 4050? That should run a lot cooler.

Never mind I see it's a 120W 4050.

Would anyone recommend this over the Open Box Excellent ASUS - ROG Zephyrus 15.6" WQHD 165Hz Gaming Laptop-AMD Ryzen 9-16GB DDR5 Memory-NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060-512GB PCIe 4.0 SSD - Eclipse Gray for $691? I was able to order one of the open boxes so now trying to decide if this Ryzen 7 option is better.

I occasionally game and mostly use my home computer for office and video streaming. My original plan is to buy slim pro 7 when it is on sale again on best buy. Since G14 and legion slim 5 are both on sale, I went to check them out at a local best buy. I have to say the screens on G14 and legion slim 5 look so much brighter and sharper (even the resolution are similar) than slim pro 7. Even though G14 is a LCD panel it is not far behind the OLED on legion slim 5 at all. Since it's brighter, I think it even gives people better initial impression. All three laptops have pretty good build quality. Not as slim as slim pro 7, G14 is portable enough for me. Since I do not need the higher process power of legion slim 5, I went with this G14. Sorry slim pro 7.
