Debating it myself. Seems the only reason would be the 4060 or 4070 falling in price further to better match the 1440p screen. That being said, you get all the same other hardware with those builds so the lowest price of entry (this config) becomes probably the best value. Also the 4050 is no slouch - I thought it would be like the 3050 or 2050 before it but seems more capable. Roughly equivalent to a DESKTOP 3060. 40+ % better than a 3050 and only about %20 worse than a 4060.

For me it's just a question of "will the prices drop further when the new g14 comes out!?"

7735Hs is 6800Hs. So even though it starts with 7 it's actually last gen Zen 3 CPU instead of Zen 4.

I had just come back to mention this as well. Kind of annoying that they "sneak" that into this package. Overall the 4060 model is probably more of the "sweet spot" but you're not going to get anywhere near the $800 open box price you find here. Decisions decisions.....

Basically the same CPUs. The 7735HS has a Max Boost Clock of 4.75 GHz and a 35-54 watt default TDP. The 6800HS has a Max Boost Clock of 4.7 GHz and a 35 watt default TDP.

Get the one with the 4060. Also I'd avoid these g14 open box. I had to return two with bad backlight bleed. Current one that has backlight bleed I'm stuck with outside of the return window, somehow the bleed is getting worse over time.

In the corners of the screen? I'll look out for that…

I bought this and Lenovo legion 5. I don't love the larger form factor but it's a 4060 for about the same money (open box). I'll try to compare them.

I do think the 4050 will be plenty of GPU if you put resolution to 1080p oreven 720p. It's a 14" screen. Should be plenty crisp.

Damn this hinge mechanism which lifts the keyboard deck sounds like trouble.

Asus has evolved this style of hinge for years, and it's pretty solid. My 2018 zenbook has it, no issues with it whatsoever; it's in great shape. Just a bit slow by today's standards.

I think this is about perfect for your use case. You pay a bit of a premium on these G14s for a sleek look, nice build quality, and great portability. You won't feel like too much of a dork pulling this thing out in class or at a coffee shop. It doesn't have the typical "sponsored by Monster Energy" vibe that most gaming laptops have. And the small form factor/super light weight makes it way more travel worthy than most of the competition.

You can theoretically get a bit more horsepower for the money, but it's probably gonna be an ugly 5+ lb. chonker.
