Really wish there was a 16 or 18 oz version. 12 is too small, but 24 too large. Oh well.

FYI the 24oz birch color shows $20.37 (30 day low). This is a way better deal especially if you need a larger size than 12oz. Delivery shows Dec 22- Jan4.

If you want something that keeps your coffee/drinks hot, buy a Zojirushi.
I second that! My Zojirushi keeps my coffee scorching (literally) hot. I have this 12 oz Hydro Flask and my coffee cools off much faster in it than in my Zojirushi.

Do vacuum insulated mugs like this actually keep liquids piping hot or just warm? How quickly do they lose heat?
Yes. Very much. I have a 20 ounce hydra flask mug. I can make coffee at 7 AM before I leave the house for work and if I leave the lid on the mug, my coffee is not even cool enough to drink until 11 AM. So whenever I get to work I immediately take the lid off to let it start cooling because it is still steaming at 9am.

I own the 12 ounce and it's great for the large 10 ounce kcup coffee. I did manage to scratch the inside of the mug somehow on just a handful of uses. Overall, keeps me from wasting coffee in the mornings when the regular cups go cold.

Note: You only get approximately 10 oz with the lid. There is a marker inside the cup.

If you want an insulated mug, I would go with another brand. Look closely at the space between the colored part and the stainless lip. There is a gap, the colored part is rubbery and fluids will get in between. It's not a solid piece like their other cups and tumblers. Zoom in on the pics and you can see it. I have one I bought a few years ago and I won't use it anymore because it get rusty between there and it's gross. Not worth the $$ at all. Go with something else that is better constructed.

There is a gap between the steel lip and cup. Shit will get stuck between the lip and rubber causing the material to peel off

Why do I want this so badly? Don't need it but bought it anyway because I just love the look in shape. Well done Hydro flask.
One can load with an 'adult' drink when it's otherwise prohibited ;-) perfect size for that

I have this mug and it does not keep drinks cold or hot for long. It doesn't actually have substantial vacuum insulation and is just as good as a silicone sleeve over a steel mug. Get the HydroFlask Rocks 10oz cup instead, or a Yeti Rambler. And yes, stuff does get stuck in the lip between the silicone and the steel and it rusts and looks really gross after a while, it's very difficult to clean.

I've been looking for an insulated mug that isn't made in China. Seemingly impossible task, but I just don't trust Chinese goods for anything that holds my food & drink. Looking for a Zojirushi that is a coffee mug style vs. thermos/travel style.

JFYI:

"Super disappointed. Bought two of these, one for my wife and one for me.
Two big problems:
1. They do not keep coffee hot for long.
2. Tends to leak.
I will probably not be buying from this company again. BBW, product made in China."

Funny you mentioned that. I brought a similar sized mug from yeti, the supposedly top tier brand. I honestly thought it would keep my coffee hot longer but wasn't the case. I even pre treated the mug by pouring in hot water for a couple of mins before pouring coffee in it.

I ended up buying a zojirushi personal sized slim thermos based on a coworkers recommendation and it definitely does not disappoint.

I do have to pre treat it with hot water but it's not an issue for me. I like McDonald's coffee (no judgement please 😛), I have them swirl some hot water first and it really helps keep the coffee hotter.

Give zojirushi personal thermos a try and pre treat it with hot water before pouring coffee. It keeps it really hot for a good while. Last I checked Target online was selling it, give it a try, if it's not to your liking, return. Btw, it's made in Japan.
