t-mobile paid you $5 for your phone up front to your bill.
The edge cost $498.
$498-$493=5
$5 for 24 months ia about 20 cents per month.
in your mind, you probally think you get $5 and $498 from T-mobile thats why you're confused.
For all trade-in deal on t-mobile. You want to have your device worth $0. This way you get the full $498 credit. Then you wont see any device eip charge on the bill each month.
I have a 10 line account which is around $200 a month. Others have it even cheaper.
I did the moto deal last time this was around since it seems like simple choice users aren't getting any good iPhone deals.
The steal here is doing it through Costco. They waive the $35 activation fee per line plus they give you a $75 cash card

I am also on simple choice and not getting any upgrade offers lately, this Costco deal is perfect, basically free phones and $75 gift card. Kids can use these phones with wifi, also note that you can get them unlocked temporarily 5 times a year after using a month or so on TMobile line, each time unlocked 30 days, so someone can use it as a backup phone.

That said, the screen and hand-feel of the Edge 2023/2022 are IMO better than those of the Pixel 6 series. On the other hand, the Edge 2023/2022 is slower, has awful software update support, spotty connectivity, and has a mediocre main camera.
And a reminder, again, disable/uninatall the App Manager/App Selector malware that T-Mobile puts on these ASAP, otherwise they'll start downloading and installing ad-ridden garbage in the background.
Also these phones are about to flood eBay lol

1)retain no value when used.
Don't think you'll be trading it in anywhere or selling it for very much
2)low repairability.
I couldn't even find someone to replace the battery a few years ago. After 4 years my brother needed to bring a battery pack everywhere

I did the previous deal but the glass I bought from Amazon was bigger than the screen. I had to contact the seller via their own site but they never replied back
