Don't recommend this bank for serious users unless your goal is just to earn the signing bonus. I had SoFi for roughly 6 months, used them for direct deposit and bill pays as I normally did with other banks. One day I got an email saying my account was locked and needed to call their 800 number. I called multiple times and their CSRs were not only clueless but also rude by hanging up on customers if they didn't have answers. When asking to speak with their manager, their standard answer was "this is the highest escalation point". They could not tell you any reason why the account was locked, nor a timeline when the so-called internal review would be completed. During that review period, all scheduled payments will be declined and they are not responsible for any consequences. I filed complaints with CFPB, OCC and BBB, and got the restriction removed in a week or so. SoFi finally sent me a letter stating that "Regrettably, it was found that our system flagged your account in error, which caused the restriction. We offer our deepest apologies for the error and delay". As soon as the lock was removed, I closed my accounts and advised my family members and friends to do the same, because you never know when SoFi would decide to lock down your access to your own money without reasons and timelines.
any tricks for the direct deposit? will a bank transfer qualify?

NM, I read the fine print.

Bonus Terms: In order to qualify for eligibility for a bonus, SoFi must receive at least one Direct Deposit (as defined below) from an Eligible Participant, the first of which must be received on or after 12/7/2023. Direct Deposits are defined as deposits of $1,000.00 or greater from an enrolled member's employer, payroll, benefits provider, or government agency via ACH deposit. Deposits that are not from an employer, payroll, benefits provider, or government agency (such as check deposits; P2P transfers such as from PayPal or Venmo, etc.; merchant transactions such as from PayPal, Stripe, Square, etc.; and external bank ACH transfers not from employers) do not qualify for this Direct Deposit Promotion. The amount of the bonus, if any, will be calculated during the Direct Deposit Bonus Period as described and defined below.
SoFi is great but they still have some common FinTech limitations that are annoying.
- You can only link other bank accounts using Plaid. If you don't agree to Plaid terms you are pretty much out of luck.
- Email notifications are very limited, they try to only use push notifications which are not nearly as good for keeping history and you have to keep the app on your phone.
- They do have a website at least, but it's very basic and similar to the app.

On the good side though
- The debit card is great, no foreign transaction fees, and many free ATMs
- You can keep all money in savings account and auto-draft to maximize interest
- Vaults are good for securing and saving money

Agree. Good luck with getting any money back if your account is ever compromised- they will simply determine they were not at fault and leave u screwed with no recourse unless filing complaints which gets them to act.

That's how these scam banks offer high rate checking/savings - by pinching customers on all the other basics. Simple as.
to be perfectly clear, this rate isn't high at al. CIT is giving 4.1%. i think amex was also doing 3.8 recently. sofi's 3.8 is better than anything anything you will ever get from HSBC or BoA, as those banks are scams, but i would not consider 3.8 high right now

How long do you have to keep the accounts open, after getting the $300 bonus, to avoid clawback of the bonus?
were you able to find out, just opened sofi, but unsure how long the period is before i can close

You should Google "doctor of credit sofi bonus" to find the long thread with comments and this specific information

That site has loads of DPs

Including the answer to your question. Which is that if it's not in the terms, which it isn't, it should be okay to close it. Though good etiquette for these is to leave them open for a bit not close them down right away

I was not able to find out.

However, I have like another month before it's been 6 months since I got my bonus, so will just wait it out until then to be safe.

They took money from my savings to an investment account without authorization and took no responsibility. You can see the logins in the security & settings page. No login activity yet a one-time transfer initiated that day.

Moved my money out of SoFi, waiting a few days before I can get that money they stole from the invest account and then we're done

Fidelity Investments' Cash Management Account (CMA):

> Pays Money Market (SPAXX) rates, currently 3.93%, paid monthly
> Reimburses third-party ATM fees next business day
> No FX fees
> No minimum balance
> No service charge
> Integrated Bill Pay
> Photo Deposit
> If you have the Fidelity Visa, you can have your 2% rebate deposited into the CMA (or any Fidelity account) monthly, automatically

I kissed my bank of over twenty years (BofA) goodbye over ten years ago. Fidelity does it better and actually has grown-ups who answer the customer service lines.

I have CapitalOne Saving and it is currently offer 3.80% interest.

Regarding Fidelity Investment when cash is automatically held in a money market fund (SPAXX).
Is it still function as a regular checking/saving account where you can take cash in/out? Currently 3.93% but does it vary day by day with SPAXX?

Please advise since I'm new with Fidelity. Many thanks.

They auto-sweep the money in and out as needed/not needed. Unlike Schwab, who used to do this with their Schwab 1 account but stopped so they could boost their profits (they've made many millions off of that move). It's one of the things I love about the Fidelity CMA. It's mindless with its sweeps. When your paycheck hits (or any deposit), it automatically gets swept into SPAXX that night. When you write a check or pay a bill, they pull out exactly what's needed to cover it. Mindless!

Right, but it's not FDIC insured?

No, not FDIC as is the case with all mutual funds. They are insured by SIPC. That said, no one has every lost money because of the failure of a money market fund. That's called "busting the buck" since money market funds are always $1/share. I believe there was one company, maybe Vanguard, who had a problem with one of their money market funds in the 90s but Vanguard paid out of their pocket to shore the fund back up.

I put some funds in as a test case. As the result, the fund is not available right away after it has been posted. Thus, this doesn't function as a bank. It looks like Fidelity keeps my principle for a while before I can use my own money.

This is strange compared to SoFi since SoFi allows me to use my money right away in the account, plus, they SoFi sent me a debit card which Fidelity said nothing about it. Do you have any advise?
