I'm in the same boat, so any extra information would be welcome. I was hoping to cut down what I'm paying ($160 a month, up from when I signed up for $99 ten years ago) but it doesn't look like that's feasible, so I'm happy to at least get an xBox and gift card out of it.

My father in law has used Verizon Fios for years. He was paying $180/mo for tv and 75/75 internet. I had him cancel his plan and I setup a new one under my name. Granted I live in CA, and he lives on the east coast. New plan is under my name, and extra discount for being a VZW customer ($25/mo reduction). I just did it through a chat online, and they set everything up for me. So now he's at gigabit, for $65/mo, and he just got YTTV to save money. I will move him to 500/500 after 6mo, because he doesn't really need 1gb, but I wanted the Xbox and $400 in total gift cards.

Yeah, they told me it had to be 24hrs. Unsure why. But it wasn't an issue for my FiL. Worth the goodies they gave me. Hahah.

Am I right that I don't have to install and activate the service right away after I get the device? Also is it only after service activation that I will get the verizon gift card?
