FYI, the S24 series is supposed to be announced next month. Google Fi should have similar deals on the S24 series, like they did on the S23 at launch. I think the launch S23 deals were even better than the deal listed in this post.

The cheapest is the $20 Flexible Plan (unlimited talk/text, any Data used is $10 per GB, prorated). The taxes & fees usually add another $6-$7 a month. Percentage wise that sounds high, but some of the fees are fixed-amounts per line so they skewed the percentage. Some people in Texas have taxes & fees as high as $10 each month.

I did the Fi pre-release S23 deal in Feb this year. My S23 (with free upgrade to 256GB) was $299.99. So it was better than this deal. Plus the trade-in values at that time was great. I traded in an iPhone11 for $310 which pretty much offset the cost of the S23. My net cost was $27 in sales tax on $299.99, minus the $10 in excess credit.

If I need to stay on Fi for 120 days, and cancel on day 121, does this mean I'm paying for 5 months of service? Or does Fi prorate for the extra 1 day of service?

it is usually prorated but I put my line on pause and never actually disconnected so I never got refund back but instead I get monthly invoice with credits on my account. And do not disconnect on 121th day. have some buffer and do check your account counter if you have met the criteria.

Fi billing cycle USUALLY starts 2 days after activation and the subsequent ones start on the same day of the month. Example: if you activate the phone on Dec 15th, 1st billing starts on Dec 17th, subsequent ones on Jan 17th, Feb 17th, March 17th, April 17th. Since Dec, Jan, March have 31 days each (but Feb has only 28 days), your 5th billing cycle starts on April 17th but your 121st day is on April 16th. So, if you've verified that your promo discount has been Earned on April 16th, you can promptly cancel before the 5th Billing Cycle starts. I added info to the Wiki on how to Verify Your Promo Discount Was Earned and How to Cancel Fi . There's also a link to a Date Calculator to quickly calculate when your 121st day is.

Note: If you activate on the last 3-4 days of each month, the Billing Cycle does NOT start 2 days later. Fi has some strange schedules for those days.

I have done many Fi deals (S22, Pixel 7, base S23, S23U) and always removed the Fi physical SIM a few days after activation to use the phone with a physical SIM of another provider. You do NOT need to keep the Fi SIM in the phone the entire 120 days. If you remove the Fi SIM, do NOT use it in another phone, because if you do you'll get a message from FI that you're about to lose your promotion discount.

If you can find info on a Fi site/page that says the Fi SIM has to stay in the Fi phone for the entire 120 days, please post it.
cool. the more you know.

To clarify (since the promo terms are a bit vague)...

I need to immediately port my T-Mobile number to Fi when activating the phone, right? So before I even start the activation process, I need to call T-Mobile to get the transfer PINs before starting this process, right?

Ideally, I'd like to set up the phones, transfer/install all apps, then port the number a few days later. This would require activating a new phone number on Fi, which seems to violate the terms of the promotional credit, right?

Here are the two bullet points from the promotional terms...
  • Activate the phone on a new full service plan (data-only SIMs do not qualify) within 30 days of the shipment confirmation.
  • You must also bring/transfer your number to Fi within 30 days of the shipment confirmation email . Numbers ported in must be from carriers that have calling, voice and data services. Fi-to-Fi number transfers are not eligible.

It doesn't specifically call out that these two steps must be done within a specified time nor immediately upon activation. Just simply "within 30 days of shipment."

When you place your order, there's a step where you enter the info for the phone number to be port in (phone number, carrier, account number, port PIN, maybe zipcode, etc). That info will be stored in your Fi account BUT NOT SET IN STONE. You can log into your Fi account and change/update that info anytime, up to right before you activate the Fi SIM.

The port-in will take place when you activate the Fi SIM. The reason for it to say "You have 30 days to port-in..." is that you have 30 days from ship date to activate the SIM (and port-in takes place at activation). But don't wait until the 30th day to activate the Fi SIM because if there's a problem with port-in and it takes a few days to straighten out then you'll blow your promotion discount.

You can set up the phone, installing apps, etc before activating the Fi SIM (by not running the Fi app until you're ready to activate).

Many thanks for your insight.

When I bought the phones, it did give me the option to "get a new number" or "transfer". I chose the former during the process because it did say you can change the option later. When I log into my Google Fi account via browser, I do see the option to "Prepare for number transfer" as well as the text "Your number will only transfer when you choose to activate Google Fi on your phone. Until then, you'll still be able to use calling, texting, and data with your current provider." I suppose I need to do this for each family member's account on the website, or can I do it in the Google Fi app on each individual phone when activating?

So as long as I don't open the Google Fi app, I'm good to go with setting up the new phones and transferring everything from our old phones without risking accidental activation/porting, right?

Since you need to run the Fi app to activate the phone, then the best way to avoid accidentally activating the phone is to put off installing the Fi app until you're ready to activate the phone. Make all changes on the web site, in the appropriate Fi account(s).

Purchased the phone on the 9th and I was initially promised a delivery date of 13th. It's not here yet .. and Fedex shows "Delivery Exception". Google gave me no solution but to wait.

I won't hold my breath.

Did FedEx give a detailed description of the "Delivery Exception"? I don't like FedEx delivery service. The drivers sometimes quit delivering after it got dark but not even 6pm yet (especially this time of year), then log some bogus reason for the exception. One time it snowed a few inches in my city, I was at home and saw the FedEx truck going by my house at noon without stopping, then a while later got a "Delivery Exception" notice with the reason "Local Weather Delay". I took a picture of my cleared driveway, called FedEx central number to lodge a complaint. Shortly later, the local FedEx office manager called me, I asked her for her cell phone number then texted the picture to her. A few hours later, another driver came by to deliver my package.

Hopefully someone can help me out. Need 2 new phone for my kids. I did a similar deal last year for my wife's phone.

1. I see it says offer valid once per group member, what does that mean?
2. Can I get 2 phones on one Google Fi account, or do I need 2 different Fi accounts?
3. Something I did not like from last year was that I had to sign into the phone with the Fi account that I used to sign up, rather than my wife's gmail account. Is that still the case, or can I just sign into the phone with my kid's gmail accounts?

I don't use a group plan, so can only give you some general answers for questions 1 & 2. When you have several Fi users who know each other (friends, family members) you can create a group so the monthly cost for each member in the group plan is lower than that for a single plan. Each member of the group is eligble for one discounted phone. I'm not sure if the group owner (who is responsible for the monthly bill) orders a phone for each member, or each member order his/her own phone. In this thread about an earlier Fi S23 deal, there were several posters who used a group plan, you might want to send them a Private Message and ask for help:
https://slickdeals.net/f/16804301-google-fi-256gb-samsung-galaxy-s23-ultra-unlocked-smartphone-various-colors-600-more-w-existing-fi-account-free-s-h

3. On each phone, you will need to sign into the Fi app with the Fi account that ordered the phone to activate the phone. After the phone has been activated, you can uninstall the Fi app, then sign into the phone with whichever Google account that you want to use. The Fi app is needed to activate the phone, and to manage the Fi account, but you can manage the Fi account using the web site. I always uninstalled the Fi app after activating the phone.
