FYI, the S24 series is supposed to be announced next month. Google Fi should have similar deals on the S24 series, like they did on the S23 at launch. I think the launch S23 deals were even better than the deal listed in this post.

The cheapest is the $20 Flexible Plan (unlimited talk/text, any Data used is $10 per GB, prorated). The taxes & fees usually add another $6-$7 a month. Percentage wise that sounds high, but some of the fees are fixed-amounts per line so they skewed the percentage. Some people in Texas have taxes & fees as high as $10 each month.

I did the Fi pre-release S23 deal in Feb this year. My S23 (with free upgrade to 256GB) was $299.99. So it was better than this deal. Plus the trade-in values at that time was great. I traded in an iPhone11 for $310 which pretty much offset the cost of the S23. My net cost was $27 in sales tax on $299.99, minus the $10 in excess credit.

Did FedEx give a detailed description of the "Delivery Exception"? I don't like FedEx delivery service. The drivers sometimes quit delivering after it got dark but not even 6pm yet (especially this time of year), then log some bogus reason for the exception. One time it snowed a few inches in my city, I was at home and saw the FedEx truck going by my house at noon without stopping, then a while later got a "Delivery Exception" notice with the reason "Local Weather Delay". I took a picture of my cleared driveway, called FedEx central number to lodge a complaint. Shortly later, the local FedEx office manager called me, I asked her for her cell phone number then texted the picture to her. A few hours later, another driver came by to deliver my package.
My package went from "On the way" to "Delivery exception" all in the early morning before drivers take packages out for delivery. Never even saw an "Out of delivery" status on the tracking page.

No reason or detailed description on the tracking page, it just says "Unable to deliver".

Seems like someone being lazy and didn't want to deliver out of their way. Hoping they bother to show up tomorrow.

I bought a Pixel 8 but it doesn't feel like a 549+tax phone. Quite looking forward to trying a Samsung for the first time.

More information.. I called Fedex and they said that when they scanned the package before loading onto the delivery vehicle, it appeared to be empty, so they just sat on it and didn't bother to notify anyone.

Chatted with Google and they're investigating this. Lord knows when I'll get the phone.

In this LOOONG thread about the pre-release Fi23 Deal, there were quite a few posts from people whose phone packages arrived empty or had junk stuffed in it:
https://slickdeals.net/f/16418272-google-fi-512gb-samsung-galaxy-s23-ultra-smartphone-pre-order-600-more-w-activation-port-in-free-s-h . Search the thread for "empty" or "stolen".

Depending on a buyer's location, Fi used FedEx or UPS. I believe all of the phones stolen were shipped via FedEx. There must be an organized ring of thieves in FedEx system.

Holy moly, so it isn't a one off incident. I'm actually happy that Fedex chose to not deliver the package at all. If I'd received an empty package, it would be significantly harder to prove to Google I didn't steal it.

Whenever I received a phone package via FedEx, I always asked the driver politely if he could give me a minute to open it, using the excuse that "this company sometimes sends the wrong item". All the drivers so far have agreed to wait. If the box was empty, I would refuse the shipment and the driver could be a witness.

Thinking of leaving T-Mobile for another service. How are Google Fi and Visible?
Fi data rates are same across the globe if you happen to travel outside. It comes in handy and service is generally excellent at most places since Fi tags on more than just T-Mo.

Anyone have experience with multiple phones? I'm checking out with 3 phones, looking to get the discount on all three and willing to port numbers in for all three. But it only asks for the first number to be ported in and then says, "Your group members will choose their numbers when they accept email invitations to your plan." Have I done something wrong or do you only actually have to port in a single number to get the deal on multiple phones? Or maybe the message is wrong and all phones ultimately have to port in a number?

I've done many Fi deals but have never used the group plan. It's best for you to contact FI support and ask your questions. One wrong move and your discount(s) will be voided without recourse.

2 days after "investigating", a rep from Google emailed me saying they couldn't get a response from Fedex, and asked if I want a replacement device.

I said "Yes, if possible please expedite", and the next response arrives 24 hours later saying "Can't expedite. Send?"

I said "Yes".

At this rate, S24 will be released before I get my device. Why is Google so terrible at customer support?

I get what you're saying, but it wasn't Google's fault. However, you may get some compensation if you remain civil with them and escalate the issue. This will be difficult with Google, because as you mentioned, their customer support isn't the greatest.

I think there is some blame to lay on Google given that they continue to use the same vendors that keep stealing their devices en-route. It's not shipped directly from Google. And it's worse as they themselves can't seem to get Fedex to investigate, and that the rep assigned to my case responds only once every 24 hours (Indian name, likely outsourced).

The rep responded this morning saying she'll now go ahead and process the replacement and I should look out for a tracking email. The device has still not shipped. I reported the phone missing exactly 1 week ago.

It is simply not good enough.

It seems like any time there's a hidden video showing customer packages being thrown around and abused, it's always a FedEx employee. Any time FedEx delivers packages to my mother, they're always left in the driveway and not taken to the door.

I just ordered a laptop from HP on 11/24. It was shipped by FedEx, then stuck in customs, finally released with a delivery date of 12/8. I stayed home to make sure I was there to sign for it, but it never arrived. It was then shipped to another state, then back to the original location. I was given a new delivery date of 12/11. Again, I waited around that morning and early afternoon to sign for it, then called FedEx, who told me that it was scheduled to be delivered that evening between 6-8pm. It never showed up. Finally, I get a text saying that the package is moving again and it was delivered on 12/13. The package was thoroughly beat up and exposed to enough water that caused it to soak through to the inside of the packaging. I initiated an exchange with HP immediately. I had to take multiple pictures of every side of the box, including the inside, then print out a label, drive it to a FedEx location. It took 5 days to be delivered back to them, and I have yet to hear anything. They won't start building me a new laptop until this process is completed, then it's going to take another 10 days or so to be shipped from China. It's extremely annoying, but you're not alone.

Oh my, that sounds like a total nightmare. My experience is relatively a cake walk compared to that.

I read that Google uses UPS for replacements in the case of thefts. Hoping that's the case for me as well.

In the mean time, Mint dropped a really good deal that I might jump on if stock comes back.

I did this a few days ago. When you invite the others to your group, they need to log in, and there is an option for telling Google Fi that they will be porting a number (need zip code, account number, and transfer PIN). Annoyingly, you have to re-enter all of that information when activating the phone through the Google Fi app.

Could you answer a few questions? I'd to learn more about group plan and multiple phones.
1. Does each group member create their own Fi account before the group owner invites them to join the group? If yes, can the account be empty (without an active Fi line) before joining?
2. Let's say each member wants to have an S23. Does the group owner place an order for all the phones through his account or each member places their own order through their Fi account?
3. If the group owner ordered all the phones, then how does the activation process work? Does each member log into the Fi app on their phone with their own Fi account ID and activate/port?
