This is not the model listed in the lawsuits. The ones listed in the lawsuits are various Extreme and Extreme Pro models as well as the Pro-G40 and Western Digital My Passport. I don't know if this model also suffers from the same issue(s) and I am trying to figure out when it was introduced. I've gone ahead and ordered one given the extended holiday return period. I'll leave it unopened until I decide to keep it or there's a deal on a Samsung T7.

Fire sale on these since they have fatal flaws and drives fail right and left. Don't do it.

This drive does not have the same issues as the extreme versions. The drive inside is a sn350. This is a low performance/endurance drive. The TBW is only rated for 100TB. My test with h2wtest show avg write of 110MB and read of 350MB. Writes seem to overheat the drive +74C.

Thanks for the insight and for confirming that this doesn't have the same issues. That 100TB TBW is concerning, though, so I may personally return the drive.

Personally I think a reputable 2.5 ssd in a standard usb enclosure without hardware encryption is the best way

You do realize Samsung had serious issues with it's popular line of NVME storage as well right?

yeah they do. I just had one fail, but it was coming I guess as it had done it's tour of duty...

Reading the ARSTECHNICA story on the Sandisk/WD issues with the Extreme drives and whatnot, their standing recommendation until further notice was Sabrent and LaCie... but obviously not as ubiquitous or at pricing near this....

Yeah, I hope the precious commenter on this being a different drive altogether in the wd green line etc is a little more promising in terms of "fail", although spec wise isn't all that... but for use, and knowing what it is going into it, and having only data on it that is temp or backed up or am not that precious with.. I w'ment in for one... but I recognize not only is that a crappy way to approach a purchase of a hard drive, let alone data.... sigh...

I'm just thinking of it as an "on the road" storage unit with stuff from Plex and whatnot that already exists elsewhere and temp backup kinda thing, as at the price, it will have that utility for sure, and there isn't anything really to lose, and the convenience outweighs the higher probability of fail if it is in fact similar in problems to the other sandisk extreme products etc...

I looked at some of the Crucials and whatnot on sale for $99, and their reviews are not a hell of a lot better with heat issues etc, and the other sale from Samsung seems to be REAL slow rolling on delivery (another commenter said they ordered some weeks ago and still don't have them iirc)... so whatever, I think if you approach it like a glorified usb stick, it's worth a toss...

Just got it, checked with Sandisk website on firmware, said it is not impacted. Firmware up to date.

Tried to copy some files, shows speed 410 MB/s - I've never got this speed in my machine. LoL

Literal garbage, even the "extreme" versions were dead within a few months

I dont want to post actual links because of the SD link restrictions, but basically you need a "2.5 ssd sata drive" and a "2.5 ssd sata case." Note that if you want a specific connector on the case (like a usb C) you may need to browse through the options a little closer.

Don't trust that. I was using this until two weeks back(use for year n half ). I copied 200gb size of photos and it died after copying. I would recommend to stay away from Sandisk ssd for a while.

Was it the exact same model as this Walmart version (SDSSDE29-2T00-AW25)?

And out of curiosity since I ordered it and possibly help others:
If it was, was the drive just not recognized afterwards, any SMART info, and did you try shucking it to see if it was the drive or controller board that died?
Someone posted a how to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDT_wl2sPF4 (note this is one of the Extreme versions, but I think it's likely a similar enclosure for the Walmart version).

TIA!
