This is not the model listed in the lawsuits. The ones listed in the lawsuits are various Extreme and Extreme Pro models as well as the Pro-G40 and Western Digital My Passport. I don't know if this model also suffers from the same issue(s) and I am trying to figure out when it was introduced. I've gone ahead and ordered one given the extended holiday return period. I'll leave it unopened until I decide to keep it or there's a deal on a Samsung T7.

Critical things like family photos and videos? Absolutely. Even a third backup stored away (in a safe, bank box) might be a good idea to guard against theft, fires/hurricanes, etc. I've had TWO drives fail at the same time before (primary in a laptop and a backup). Unlikely, but possible. And even if the ssds don't fail completely (a very quick process) data can become corrupted before you realize the drive is failing SMART checks

So I went with this thread's SanDisk (shuckability is useful if say the USB-C port/adapter board dies, or if I repurpose the SSD for an internal device). But Samsung does make quality storage, and the T7 was on my shortlist. If none of the above concerns you, it seems like a solid recommendation.

This is slower in write speed than my hard drive. At least get the extreme that is not on the lawsuit.

Out of 6 drives, 1 encountered critical errors and could not finish a cycle of h2testw. Another drive stuck at slow writes even after formatting. Maybe formatting doesn't TRIM the drive. Not a good drive in general due to low QLC performance and endurance.

Thanks for sharing. I have not opened my 2 drives yet. Probably going to return them then. Not worth it. Love saving money, but not when data loss or poor performance (like the inconsistent performance you encountered with 1 out of just 6 drives) is more likely than with an alternative, even if a little more costly.
