If you personally feel as though a person really is going to get into a $25 sleeping bag and expect to brave a sub-freezing temp night in anticipation of a cozy and warm evening - You have a very vivid imagination.
Last winter I picked up two of the Slumberjack Sky Pond 40degF Mummy Bags for about $18 each through walmart clearance along with warm and cold weather liners for about $3-4 each also on clearance and they are quite cozy. Packable but not too hot either, seems to be a good setup for nights down into the upper 40s so long as the air is reasonably dry and so is the tent. Durability is not a major concern since every individual will treat a bag to a very different lifestyle and washing habits and that is really what will make or break a cheap setup. Wash it very little, air it out a lot, use a liner and dont go to bed reeking of onions. It is not unreasonable to think one could get 100 nights of sleep out of a bag that costs $25. That is a very good value for a entry level bag.

Unfortunately, the shell is not nylon, which is more typical of higher-quality bags

Yeah that should be fun to lug around if you backpack.
