It is an Internet gateway with FW/IPS/NAT and a switch all in one (no WiFI). This gets you into the Ubiquiti system with its ability to manage other Ubiquiti devices centrally. It is what many would consider prosumer networking gear since you are using a separate Internet gateway, access points, POE switches, etc.

Does this support dual wan uplinks with failover? Running a ER605 that I am not thrilled with that this could replace, along with a 8 port switch.

Last I checked UDM (and UDMP) doesn't have an OpenVPN client which is honestly ridiculous.

Edit: Nevermind, seems that this is now supported.

Yep, failover or distributed. Can use 2 copper, mix of copper/sfp+ or all sfp+. This is especially handy if you have >1gb service as you can pickup a 2.5gb copper SFP and throw it in there. I know the UDMP doesn't have 2.5gb copper like the SE does, but it does offer 2x SFP+ ports to accommodate if needed. Of course, no POE is another factor.

UDMP does (not sure about UDM)... both as a server and client (along with Wireguard).

Go back to Microcenter for a price match
Microcenter may give you a hard time with price matching. I just picked one up from the Dallas location and had to fight with them to get them to match. Their excuse is that they do not price match from the manufacturer, but this is stated in any of their policies online.

What does using a Unifi switch get you over any other (poe) switch? Besides seeing the generated map, I can't think of any other benefits as far as the cameras and protect are concerned.
The AR features are quite nice to know where things are plugged in.
Ability to create specific NVR network + devices.
Firewall rules, where necessary.

If you just want to plug and play, then yeah any POE switch will do. But the other features of an integrated system go away when you use the netgear switch or the like.

Great deal, picked one up on BF for this price. Now I'd really like the Dream Router to come back into stock, and/or them to come out with one that is a bit faster... that would actually be in stock.
Someone buy my Dream Router! $200 shipped from NY, less than a year old! I wanna buy the UDM Pro!

This is cool and all, but I'm still rocking my old original UDM. I'd love for those to go on sale - or how about some of them access points! The Protect ecosystem looks good and I could definitely see myself going down that road at some point... but for now, I have a pretty decent existing 4k poe 8 cam setup. If only Ubiquiti accepted ONVIF and allowed other hardware.

Is this a prosumer version of a modem? Is it essentially plug in ethernet from the wall then plug in whatever PoE devices to this to manage them like mesh wifi and video cameras? Sorry if this is a dumb question, Ubiquiti's line up of hardware confuses me

This is a router, not a modem.

Bought one of these recently with high hopes and ended up returning it.

Out of the box, it had a boot loop problem that following Ubiquiti's instructions was not able to be solved. I was able to get it boot and actually install several updates after a reset, but ultimately I was never actually get in to perform any kind of management of the device.

Another issue I have is the only ports capable of >1gbe were 10/11, which required you to purchase a separate sfp+ module. To me, this limits growth of this device as more consumer products are coming with 2.5gbe built in.

As it is, when I placed this between my Orbi and 2gbps fiber line my speeds decreased wirelessly from ~1300mbps to ~9xxmbps.

I'm about to sell mine since I bought a Dream Wall. Hoping I can offload it today via local classifieds before they realize the price drop lol.

It does, as of the most recent update I believe. I just set it up on mine 2 weeks ago.

I iinstalled a Special Edition DMP at a SoHo client's place and they've loved it. Much more capable than the Unifi USG it replaced, and absolutely beautiful piece of machinery.

Most people won't need this unless they know what they're doing.
