Ability to create specific NVR network + devices.
Firewall rules, where necessary.
If you just want to plug and play, then yeah any POE switch will do. But the other features of an integrated system go away when you use the netgear switch or the like.

Out of the box, it had a boot loop problem that following Ubiquiti's instructions was not able to be solved. I was able to get it boot and actually install several updates after a reset, but ultimately I was never actually get in to perform any kind of management of the device.
Another issue I have is the only ports capable of >1gbe were 10/11, which required you to purchase a separate sfp+ module. To me, this limits growth of this device as more consumer products are coming with 2.5gbe built in.
As it is, when I placed this between my Orbi and 2gbps fiber line my speeds decreased wirelessly from ~1300mbps to ~9xxmbps.
