Reason why people love the v3 is that it doesn't have a price for subscription

I got those last time they were a front page deal for the same price, and got Samsung 128GB SD cards, now I have up to 12 days of 24-hour continues HD 1080P recording.

Pretty neat

Be very aware of security issues concerning wyze cam. I was a customer since the very beginning and get rid of them earlier this year due to security and privacy issues they neglect to inform the customers about.

As dramatic as you make this sound, this wasn't a security issue. It's not like this was a targeted attack.

They clearly had an issue on their servers with account linking, but there weren't perpetrators exploiting lax security measures like some of the other cameras on the market.

Obviously it's never ideal when networked devices have issues, but it's important to be accurate.

Also, there's no requirement that these cameras use Wyze's servers once you load the RTSP enabled firmware on them.

I'm not trying to be dramatic, simply point out things I wish I had been made aware of as a customer of Wyze. They did state that one issue was a server issue, but they didn't actually inform customers. The V1 issue included "several vulnerabilities that let an outside attacker access the camera feed or execute malicious code to further compromise the device". V2 and V3 received a security patch but V1 was simply discontinued. Again, customers using the V1 were not proactively informed.
A company that sells surveillance and security equipment should be much more transparent.

Is there a similarly priced regular IP cam for people who don't want a subscription and care about their privacy?

I signed up for lite subscription for one of my v2 camera. Does it record the events on cloud? I tried to check on the events on my app and its asking to subscribe for paid plus subscription

i read something about wyze servers going down.. and if that happens the cameras are useless... true? dunno why they have to be connected to wyze servers to be viewable. I think they still record, but you can't access them locally via the network?

from my recent research.. Wyze is becoming worse and worse from it's once "being best alternative to subscription based cameras" to now becoming more subscription based.

It records 12 second clips to the cloud.

If you want them to record 100% of the time to the cloud then you'll have to pay for that unless you install an SD card. Then they'll record to that at no charge

What is the difference between this and wyze cam og?
Don't buy og. No camplus lite. You need to pay subscription.

It also doesn't record to sdcard if no internet. See https://forums.wyze.com/t/wyze-ca...d/276345/5

I'm not trying to be snarky here, I mean this seriously and politely: IP cameras are basically incompatible with privacy. You can go through some gyrations about putting them on private networks with some outbound connection blocks, but you should really just start with the presumption that anything those cameras see might end up viewed by someone else without you ever knowing it.

Great cameras. i have 3 floodlights and one v3. All with cam plus lite and sd card. These are a cheap option for
*person detection
*Continious recording to sd card
*Color Night Vision.

This is not good if you want to read liscense plates. Need a 2k cam for that.

Can you post a link to the RTSP firmware ?
https://community.home-assistant....e/422140/5

This is where I found it. Still made me setup the cam through the app. Once you have working, power off, plug in the SDcard, and power up. After it installed & reboots, the slider for RTSP was in the settings. The slider didn't want to stay "ON", but RTSP was easy to verify using VLC and then using that link I setup iSpy. One thing to think of during all this is to use a DHCP reservation on your router to set a static IP, I couldn't do it through Wyze.

Keep in mind that wyze has been steadily cutting features. I have two since early days. Just this morning I am not able to see events in the list which are more than one hour old. I liked not having subscription but I am switching them out for google nest cams. Google doesn't make you buy a subscription either.
Not true. They used to charge $50 for a yearly subscription for their nest doorbell. It got jacked up to $80. I'm kinda hesitant to renew. Might look into getting a new doorbell that doesn't have a yearly subscription.

I am using nest flood light with cam without subscription. You don't get continuous history without one but it's very reliable at capturing events and not buggy like wyze has been. You can view the all event recordings so it works for me without needing a subscription.
