We run ours year round and they last about 2 years. None have been this brand, but they all seem to be the same thing, just rebranded.

Our current one won't die just yet, it's a fighter, but it's starting to make noise, will make ice regardless of water level (it makes tiny contact lens size ice if low), and the lid falls off lol.

Even though it works, this is a good enough price to keep it as a backup until the other one finally stops working.

Our fridge has the ability to make ice, but we prefer these ice machines because we can easily use water that's gone through our Berkey filter first. ✌️

You can order a replacement pump for $10 on ebay and there are youtube videos on how to do it. It is held in by two screws. you need to take off the outside cover to replace it but the video does make it look easy
i offered $9 and he countered at $9.50 https://www.ebay.com/itm/355116728866
here's a bunch of them https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2332490.m570.l1313&_nkw=HZB-12A%2F25BF+Water+Pump... [ebay.com]

Does this keep ice frozen too?
no. this freezes to around 27 degrees. Ice out of the freezer is -5. get an ice bin while you are at walmart to keep in the freezer. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Steril...e/40667567

you have to dump this once an hour otherwise it fills up and shuts off and the ice will melt down back into the water

We had one in our house but are renting now. This is way faster than the one in our fridge. It makes over a pound an hour. and if it breaks you don't have to get a plumber to replace it. Check the videos online I promise you will find that it is the most frequently broken part of a fridge. just ask anyone with a samsung or LG

it's you, not them.

Quote from CleverDirt2575 :
I actively avoid them, they are the first thing to break. I do not need the headache. Service call is twice what type thing costs. Goes on a mini fridge and you still come out on top.
what's worse is if it leaks behind the fridge. I have a neighbor that is a plumber and he didn't catch it until $5K of damage. And since it is not an "occurrence" but a continuing condition insurance doesn't pay. They consider it failure to maintain your property.

Yes, my refrigerator has an ice maker. But it also seems to have lost it's production capacity over time -- likely something broken / needs replacement (as I've tried cleaning the coils mulitple times under the fridge). Rather than spend $$$$ to attempt to hopefully fix the built-in ice maker, I use a standalone ice maker to supplement.

We got the Ionchill Quick Cube Ice Machine, 26lbs/24hrs Portable Countertop Bullet Ice maker from Walmart for $70 in June and added the 3 yr protection plan for $9. No idea if the insurance is a hassle or worthwhile, several people just suggested it and its cheap.

It's run all day, most days since and it's so far, so good. I don't know how much power they consume but this thing replaced buying bags of ice and I'm sure by now we're ahead on ice expense.

My chief complaint with this model and maybe it's other models since they seem to just rebrand the same design over and over is, when it dumps ice the cubes don't slide down into the basket and stick on the edge causing it to stop making ice because it breaks the line of sight on the internal sensor. Therefore, in addition to having to babysit it every hour to dump the basket, you have to constantly watch it so it doesn't shut down. Seems like a design problem.

We have a water softener and don't use water filters for the machine and that seems good enough for us. Buying distilled water is just more money and hassle and not sure that its worthwhile. The ice get bagged up in the freezer and I'd say 2/3 of it is used for icing down cans in coolers and the rest for making drinks. We don't really need pretty, clear ice cubes.

What's a good ice maker? I paid a few hundred bucks for the GE Opal (Gen 1), and it has mold in it... it's PITA to clean. I'm looking for other options..

Bought this yesterday and Walmart had it delivered by the time I got home. Works well, just like all the other ice makers like this (bullet style). My only gripe is that it needs a handy place to put the scoop.

If you watch videos ice makers are one of the biggest failure points in refrigerators. Not only can they fail faster but they often times make the other equipment run harder and more often. Even more so if the water and ice maker are in the refrigerator section instead of in the freezer section.

So if you do want a refrigerator with an ice maker it probably needs to be one that doesn't dispense ice through the door but just drops into a bin in the freezer. Still you are best off avoiding having water and ice makers in your refrigerator completely if you want to maximize longevity. Compressors and what not are expensive.

I just went through this with a Fridge that was only like 5 years old. Service and fixing it was going to cost over $1,000. Ended up just buying a new LG for $1,300 that was $500 off on discount even though it was a brand new model. It does have ice but just drops it in the bin in the freezer.

Ditto, I have one of those samsung that has class action, luckily I got the extended warranty from lowes, they came out and replaced the ice maker like 3 times.. took half a year during covid when no tech was working.

I got one of these ice maker while the fridge ice maker was down. its also good for bbq, supplement ice making. Fridge ice maker can't keep up if you got a lot of people coming.

I've considered one like this model. One that makes square ice, I think more like a fridge ice maker. Ktaxon 110lbs/24h Stainless Steel Commercial Freestanding Ice Maker Machine, Gray https://www.walmart.com/ip/989325774

Anyone else try one like this

Is this better than the costco one? The only difference i see is that the Costco one is stainless steel and cheaper
I bought the CostCo version (black top with stainless base) of this Frigidaire in 2019 and it recently died. I just bought this one as a replacement. I wouldn't even waste the few extra dollars on a warranty as it will likely die right after the 2-3 year warrant is up. At $60 bucks, these are pretty disposable and not worth the hassle of messing with a warranty.

A few comments have mentioned a Costco version that is cheaper, but I have found nothing on Costco site that is cheaper than this. Anyone post a link to this cheaper icemaker at Costco?

The item number at costco is 1543587/EFIC120-SS-SC. Frigidaire model that some locations are priced at $109.99, others at $79.99.

Thank you. However, neither of those are cheaper than this Walmart model. I guess they were referring to previous prices a few years ago when they purchased it?

I am on my 5th ice maker of this style in the last 3 years. I've had a different model fridgaire for a few months now and it's still kicking. Do not be surprised if you run this thing 24/7 and it's broken before summer. One thing to note is the ice is pretty weak, i.e it'll melt faster than freezer ice since it's not "super" cold. The best machine I had in my time was one that made sheets of ice, but that one had its own cons, namely often having to break the sheets into cubes.

Edit: I do use tap water in mine which certainly reduces the life of these products, but I regularly descale and clean. If you're more gentle with yours it'll likely last longer but i'm not interested in babying a $60 appliance I use multiple times a day
