Mazda is having a hard time moving inventory. I bought a new CX-5 Signature at the peak of the pandemic shortages with 0.9% financing and $1000 below MSRP.

I absolutely love the car. As absurd and silly as this sounds, it's far more Cayenne than RAV-4. My only complaint is that gas mileage is mediocre to poor.

One thing i've learned in life is, once you make a large purchase, like a house or car, etc. Just stop looking and researching, you'll only be disappointed

Same goes for the wife! The new models are better looking and have more features, but reliability is always a question. 😂😂😭

Who put such a small dashboard nowadays. Even a low end Toyota has a bigger screen for Android and IOS Auto. That's the dumbest part of this car.
That's the best part of the car. No giant obnoxious screen ruining the lines of the dash and distracting you.

My local Honda dealer charged over $120 for my Pilot. Said I needed about $1400 of maintenance at 45k.
I told them I would never come back.
Oh and this dealership also pushes BG products super hard. (Not that they are bad, but if I wanted them I would buy them myself instead of paying full retail and someone to pour it in for shop rate hours.)
what are BG products? My shop in Bay Area (and likely others) charges $55. for oil change with blend oil/synthetic. All fluids topped off, tire pressure checked, lights checked.

Mazda is owned by Ford and uses mostly ford parts. You can buy a Ford instead of a Mazda for a lot cheaper
That was before 2008.

Who cares about grand total? Price before tax, title, license and doc fees is what matters most to compare apples to apples.
I couldn't disagree more strongly. The OTD price is the only thing that matters. Many dealers will offer a lower price on the vehicle itself and then tack on exorbitant fees. A Mazda dealer about an hour from here advertises $10,000 off MSRP and then tacks on ~$8,500 in fees. That's an extreme case, but most dealers here across various brands charge $2-4k in fees. As such, any time I go buy a vehicle I tell them I will pay X plus tax. That's it. I'm not playing the game where you offer me a great price on the car and then charge me $1,500 for a $150 DMV fee, etc.

I have no idea what people pay nowadays but the CX-5 is on its way out and dated, no matter the strong package that it is.
The CX5 and CRV have repeatedly traded 1st and 2nd slot positions in their class for I don't know how many years running. More specific to your argument about it being "dated" though is that is constantly praised for its modern looks.

This is wrong. They used to use Ford parts on their cars but they are independent for a while now, almost 10 years, I think

Just sold my 2007 Mazda3 GrandTouring with just over 160kmiles on it. Still had the ORIGINAL clutch for the manual transmission which had no slip, despite teaching 5 of my friends to drive stick on it... I didn't hold back when driving that car and it took it like a champ. Only issues I had over 14 years were a starter and a thermostat. Both of which I replaced myself. Anything else was wear and tear.

HIGHLY recommend. The car never left me stranded. Really fun to drive. I only upgraded because I needed something that could tow.
and why the 3 is always rated so highly. I bought a new 2006 Mazda 6 Sport and put 220,000 miles on it (sales and huge territory) in 7 years and it needed NOTHING except for the usual wear items: brake pads, tires, oil changes, wiper blades, radiator flush. Sold it and spoke to the owner a year later who was still driving it and no issues. Now these were 80% freeway miles and after it got detailed, it looked great. Heck of a car.

Basically only hybrid.
True dat! Hybrids are selling at premium. But at 0% financing - it makes up the saving of the extra $ you pay on gas plus the cost of hybrids are generally higher. Hybrids generally save you $2k-$3k in a 5 year span.

Ford never owned Mazda. They were partners for many years and at one point, Ford owned about 1/3 of Mazda shares. That hasn't been true for nearly a decade though. Splitting off from Ford was the best thing they could have done as their reliability and consumer sentiment took off after they broke from Ford.

was driving 3 for 14 years in major city on east coast. 160k miles, original clutch. 3 pairs of rear shocks, 1 pair of front, 2x front brakes with discs, 2x rear pads and 1 set of discs, thermostat, water pump and belts replaced at 100k - preventive maintenance, battery replaced twice after original lasted about 7 years
car that never dies.
bought new 3 this past summer

I would argue the deal is 0% apr. The worker there didn't even know about it, bought it during black Friday and was stuck with 4% APR which can easily translate to a few extra hundred monthly
True but Fed is slated to cut rates next year so I'm guessing we'll see more and more 0% APRs.
