Ugh. I want this but have spent so much money on Legos these past few weeks. I mean even more than usual… Plus I have yet to do any Xmas shopping.

I love Lego, but I can't believe how expensive they've become. I'd be really interested in the financials behind it - it's plastic, cheap! Not sure how much patents work into this model. I'm not bashing the deal, I just know Lego is making bank.

Our next door neighbor, when I was a kid, worked at a Lego factory. If a kit was missing even one piece, they tossed it into the discard pile - well, that's what I remember. He brought home all those kits, and we had endless Legos, boxes and boxes. Yeah, we had it good.

Supply run goes back to Molding presses, material blend for colors. Trust me the process is costly. It's what I do for a living Wink

Lego has always been the toy of the upper middle class. The larger sets have always been priced out of the budgets of many. I remember the space sets in the early 80's being too expensive for my parents.

i get the question. why is a pile of plastic pieces $200. but at well less than 10 cents a brick, this is a good deal as LEGOs go. Plus, if you consider it is many hours of entertainment... the price makes sense

Here's a comparison between an old set and a recent "remake"

https://brickarchitect.com/2023/r...-fortress/

Supposedly the older version was $60 back in 1989 which is about $150 today. The new set is comparable in size, which is $220. With possible gift/promo sets, or typical Lego 20% off (usually not for "collectors" items like these), I would say it's pretty close in price, especially since the old one just have huge pieces/molded plastic, vs new ones are brick built and have a lot more "plastic"

Toys in general has been more expensive, I'm not sure if you have gone to the toy section lately in your stores, unless all you get are $1.19 hot wheels (no they are not $.99 any more)

To sum up, Lego has ALWAYS been expensive. Maybe you weren't involved with your toy purchase 30 years ago but they have never been cheap. Add in inflation and larger audience/demand you get what you have today.

Two big reasons

1. Licensing fees which in this case is Marvel/Disney
2. Quality. If you had a chance to buy a knock off set with 5000+ peice that don't attach well together, has no warranty for missing pieces, and are not logically sorted then you'll know why.

I'd buy it but Walmarts packaging is so unreliable, wouldn't be surprised if they threw this in a shipping bag,

Just received my order. It's shipping inside a larger Walmart box. Lego box is fine.

I've ordered a bunch of knock off Lego sets. Not even copied sets, originals, and the quality is indistinguishable from Lego.

I have ordered about a dozen knock off sets. The quality at first glance looks the same. Over time the pieces don't attach well together and fall apart easily. If you have you set as display queens then it's really no problem.

Anything that moves like play or Technic sets are a terrible experience, especially for kids. You didn't address the sorting experience either. If you like sorting, have a process and the sorting equipment then it's not a problem but common Lego hobbyist won't.
