I think we have the older version of this (the sides are black and not shiny like this) for a few years now and we use it everyday. It's fast and makes good cup of espresso. And it's compact enough it doesn't take up a lot of space, we even take it on vacation to make coffee in the hotel room.

2 issues we had so far, one is after a couple of years it started to drip when it's at the On position. 2nd is it would get stuck once in a while (nothing comes out of the nozzle or very slow), we found out that there is a little spring in the mechanism (hard to explain here) needs to be cleaned and stretched (found that solution on YT). Otherwise it's been great for our use.

Uhhhh you don't know what you're talking about lol

De'Longhi isn't a no name Chinese brand. It's a well known and popular Italian brand.

Get the Sam's club one! Buy a bottomless portafilter and unpressurized filter basket, and a good grinder, e.g. Kingrinder K4 (approx. $90), and you can pull great real espresso. If you are on budget, K2 will do too, just needing a little bit more muscle.

I never had anything from this company last. I had an espresso machine like this and it only lasted a few months. A heater from them lasted a few months. Zero customer service too.

This burr grinder works very well with this Espresso Machine:

https://www.amazon.com/Mr-Coffee-Automatic-Grinder-BMH23-RB-1/dp/B004T6EJS0/ref=sr_1_2?crid=2RM70KUN... [amazon.com]

For a finer grind there is a hack to remove the tab that limits the choices for grind fineness.
Search the Amazon reviews for the word: tab
Look for J.J.'s review and tutorial from 4/25/2014.

Interesting. I used 2 of these for at least 5-6 years one at work and one at home everyday and never had any issues. Could be poor QC then and I got lucky.

Might want to check FB Marketplace if you are fine with a used one esp if you just want to try making espresso. They are going like $40. Sell it back same price or higher when you get tired with the mess for every single shot.
Best comment around!!! And SO TRUE!!!!

I have the older version of this machine and I do love it.

I don't think the model number matters much for these and may be retailer dependent. the major difference may just be stainless vs black plastic on the sides.

Here is the link for Sam's club: https://www.samsclub.com/p/delong..._product_1
This site explains the differences between the two - https://101coffeemachines.info/delonghi/ecp/

Looks like the Sam's club variant is mainly plastic and is "cheaper". The 3630 uses more metal and has a new steam wand.

The review site says that it's still mostly plastic painted silver.

How does one paint silver plastic, and why?

I'd heard the same about the grinder, but didn't remember to give it any thought until your comment here, and appreciate it. What is the grinder that you're not super happy with? I was just reading reviews on a few and saw positive comments on Baratza.

Anyone have any feedback on whether it's better to buy an espresso machine like a Breville Barista with an integrated grinder vs separate units, i.e. an espresso machine like this with a higher end grinder on the side?
Honestly the rabbit hole of espresso is deep. The breville is nice but it's grinder isn't very good.

I have had the machine in this slick deal for a year or so and it got me into the rabbit hole. Being manual it works pretty good however the steam wand is junk. The metal sleeve makes the milk Foam have way too many big bubbles. The wand is easy enough to swap there are many youtube videos on it.

The metal basket it comes with for the portafilter (the handle that holds the basket) is designed for coarser grinds.

It works ok for entry level learning but you can buy unpressurized baskets that have a bunch of holes vs a single hold underneath.

I modified the heck out of my machine the black and silver version ecp3420 and made a few youtube videos on it.

Controllable pressure

Pressure profiling.

I also built an arduino powered gaggia called a gaggiuino and it was pretty fun.

Eventually I got lazy and bought a superautomatic and never looked back. The convenience ruined the manual steps for me.

Anyway the ecp machine will always have a special place as it was a fantastic machine.

This deal is for the top ECP model. It has more stainless and silver painted plastic. Internally the 3 ECP model levels are identical. The Stilosa is the cheapest level and is basically the same as the ECP models, only difference I am aware of is the shower screen is slightly smaller. Not really something that effects performance. I have the lowest version, think it's ECP 3120. It's all black plastic, but works great. If you have hard water you do need to descale on a regular basis.

As mentioned above, all of these models come stock with pressurized baskets. This means you can use ground coffee from the grocery and get a low quality espresso with good looking crema. No grinder needed, or you can use cheap grinders for filter coffee. Also comes with basket for ESE pods. Milk steamer/frother is marginal- the auto frother introduces too much air. But pull down on the chrome part to pull it off and put a zip tie around the top of the black rubber tip left and it makes good latte quality micro foam.

You can turn it into a true espresso machine by buying a bottomless non pressurized portafilter on Amazon (low $20's) or cutting off the bottom of the stock one and just buy a non pressurized basket. That's what I did with a 18-20g double shot precision basket under $20 on Amazon. You will need a espresso grinder if you do this. Cheapest acceptable electric grinders that go fine enough for espresso with small adjustment steps start in low $200 range. I got a manual KinGrinder K4 for $90 and it does a great job. You do have to go through a dialing in process with each new batch of beans: adjusting the grind, the quantity of liquid out and the time. You will need a cheap $15 scale that measures to 0.1 grams with built in timer.

If you want to see these mods and the high quality of espresso and latte this machine can make check out Tom's Coffee Corner on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a...YLrA&t=74s I get espressos and lattes that are way better than Starbucks on this machine. My son has a Bambino + and likes my espresso better than what he does and a friend with the Breville using the built in grinder says the same. Pic of a latte from my ECP.

Just know it doesn't matter what espresso maker you buy if you don't have a $600 well chosen grinder first. You simply need to understand that the grinder is far more important than the espresso machine. If you can't accept this or simply disagree you already failed. A slick dealer type person might pull off getting a decent grinder for 300 bucks or so. But it's not going to be like buying other things it will be hard mode getting a good grinder for 300 bucks. I have a $200 sette30. I thought it was well Choosen and would be enough. I can get a good espresso out of it but I have to do all kinds of tricks like Dial in between notches. If anything else it's wasteful of coffee because it takes more times to dial in. Dial in means to get the exact size granules so the pour through the espresso machine work well.

It will take a little effort reading about coffee if you don't want to waste money.
You're right that a proper espresso grinder is key but off about the price by a factor of two. The Eurika Mignon is an absolutely adequate grinder for this purpose and it goes for about $300. To be fair it is the only grinder even close to that price point that anyone should be considering if they want good espresso at home.

I say this as a former barista who has an encore Eureka at home. Combined with my $300 Breville Bambino Plus it is on the level of a much higher end setup.

Edit: For anyone considering the Bambino Plus, do yourself a favor and get the cheaper non-plus and learn how to steam milk manually. It's trivial to learn, you will get much better results than the plus, and you will save a nice chunk of change.

Edit2: This assumes you use a non pressurized setup as described in the above post.

Great deal. I own one I bought in 2022 for $184. Still rocking producing my everyday fix of cappuccino or double espresso.
