I bought it and watched it just now and it looks great in 4K. There's also some cool behind the scenes extras and featurettes that you can see if you have AppleTV.
Yes, but it promises to have a new take on parts of it. After watching the extra content I was surprised at Spielberg's attention to detail in how he made the original. There's also a lot information about the movie itself. Like Nettie and Sophia had improvised lines that really are iconic to this movies. Spielberg was open to letting the actors dialogue off script in some scenes and really cared about their input. The thing that bothered the author and what also bothered me was that a clip was filmed of Mister and Celie in old age and essentially showing forgiveness which I really would like to see and I believe in this remake there's attention given to the male characters that wasn't in the original that includes elements of forgiveness which was what Alice Walker originally intended.
