I keep seeing on reddit etc that Docs are NOT what they used to be, made in China now and are very much not the same quality level. Buyer beware!

I remember 35 years ago these 8 holes were $119 and you had to go to Melrose Ave in LA to get any sort of decent selection and sizes. And now in 2023 they are $48 lol. Of course mine were made in England. I'm going to ask my gf what she did with my old last pair of docs, I think she threw them away. If she throws my creepers away though, I'm throwing her out of the house next

Great deal with the price but yeah after 1-2 years of use the soles start shaving away (I own 2 pairs which I bought in 2021 and....never again).

I've owned 2 pairs of Dr Martens boots. both were mid-calf 14 eye boots, almost identical in style. the first pair i purchased in 2011 for around $150. i do tend to agree with the "quality" argument in terms of materials and the overall feel of the shoe but i had lots of issues with comfort. as much as i loved my first pair they were very uncomfortable to wear for extended periods of time. i put dr scholl's insoles in them and ran through them pretty fast. they were also very heavy and didn't have a zipper so it would take me a long time to get on and off... the second pair i purchased a little over a year ago. i believe i paid around $100. same style 14 eye boots. do they feel the same to the touch as the ones i bought 12 years ago? no. they are much more lightweight and have a zipper so i can easily take on and off and also leave the laces at the desired fit. they are also much more comfortable and have more padding in the insole. do i think these will have the same longevity as the ones i purchased 12 years ago? to be honest i don't know. nothing indicating so far that they won't. i can only say that for the last year i've owned them my feet have been much happier.

I mean they still make high quality boots (made in England, etc.) but you're not gonna find them on sale at famous footwear.

For $48 (and extra 5% from cashback website) I'll take a shot. Thanks OP

Just to add, if you do end up buying these, don't wear these on rough surfaces. The friction really does take a toll on the soles really really quick.

If you want a nice pair of Doc Martens the way they used to make them then pick up a pair of Solovair boots instead.
