Currently have a '19 CX-5 with 20k mi. It's been at the dealership for the last 3 weeks because the tranny died. At least it's under warranty and they give me a rental Mazda.

It's nice to see a decent vehicle retailing for under $30K plus cash incentives. The market has finally gotten to a point where it's completely walking away from $80,000 F150s, and Big 3 dealers are in a serious panic because they have way more money tied up in vehicles than what the market will pay for them. Every bubble eventually bursts, and I see a wave of dealership bankruptcies coming. Hard to pity them after their $10,000 "market adjustments".

I'll get downvoted for this, but check insurance rates before you pull the trigger on this - they may have immobilizers now, but Kia Boyz don't know the difference. Also, you'll want to check your oil every time you stop for gas, and keep the receipts for every single oil change if you want that 10 year warranty to cover the eventual engine replacement.

looks like tax credits for tesla model y and 3 are gone for 2024,
No, it does not look like that.

They're gone for the 2 lower-spec versions of the 3 (because they use batteries from China). Remain in full for the Performance Model 3. (because they use batteries from Nevada)

They are unchanged on all trims of the Y. (because they also use batteries from Nevada)

glad we won't have to worry about piles of lithium batteries for 10-20 years, by then it'll be someone else's problem.

You won't have to worry about it then either- they're all recycled. Quite profitably too.

I hear Mazda has a lot of issues and problems with their car. Is that true?
Consumer reports has Mazda as the second most reliable car brand behind Lexus. Top 5 in 2022:

1. Lexus

2. Mazda

3. Toyota

4. Infiniti

5. Buick

I had a new Hyundai Kona, it was a fine vehicle other than a truly horrible dual clutch transmission. Engine worried me, was experiencing some odd stumbling and idle problems and other things that worried me that it was going to have more serious issues soon. Sold it at 20k. Replaced it with a Mazda 3. Mazda has been perfect so far, 50k in with zero issues and zero signs of future issues at this time.

Personally I would buy another Mazda, but would not get another Hyundai. (Owned a genesis by Hyundai too) The theft and insurance issues are certainly not helping either. Huge dealership quality improvement at Mazda for me too which was nice also.

Insurance cost kills any deal on Tesla's for me.

7x.. I'm afraid you are a victim of the state. A typical car loses 10-20% of value the first year

There's a Facebook group discussing Kia and Hyundai engine failures, and after reading posts about it, I'm uncertain about whether to choose a Hyundai or Kia for my next car. I would appreciate hearing from people who own cars from these brands and their experiences.

Consumer Reports shows some major issues after 6 or 7 years old, if you view their list of reliability reports for the past 10 years of Tuscons.

2022 was a redesign year though so if you like touch buttons and gloss black for the AC/center controls, this could be a good car for you, but the gloss black touch buttons for the interior are a big turn off for me. Hate those.

Wow

Toyota Sienna 54,347 6,840 694.55%

Point is the demand is there, vs them not making enough or making more fav 4's

Pretty crazy number in sales compared to last year , but deservingly so the car is pretty pimp for a minivan

Toyota Highlander 158,959 202,558 -21.52%

We have a 2020 Sonata. Super impressed with the safety features and how it rides. So many more features than my 24 Grand Cherokee and 22 Yukon. Love all 3 cars, but I wouldn't write off Hyundai without trying one

Although I really like Mazda, sighting CR isn't going to help your case much Smilie. I have owned 3 Mazdas and they were all good. On top of that, they are usually fun to drive. I had a reliable car once that I begged for it to fall apart but in never would. It just wasn't fun to drive. I found out I would rather give up a little reliability for a vehicle that is fun to drive. IMO, Mazda hits that sweet spot. Reliable, fun to drive, and look much better than most other Japanese brands. One huge Mazda downside the last time I looked at them was lack of touch screen on their infotainment system.

Many, many mechanics will not purchase one due to the extremely above average rates of major engine failures. They have a pretty bad name for engines truly, and deservedly so. Warranty is there, but they fight covering it, and or the wait is six months for a fix as they are so behind on engines due to the number of repairs. No manufacturer is perfect, but long term engine reliability is an extra risk in the Hyundai/Kia realm for sure.

I've owned two, no major issues personally, but enough issues that I will not get another (maybe electric one, no engine issues there) one for now at least. I never hardly ever hear people say man that Mazda or Toyota was so bad I'm never getting another one ever. I have personally heard that from several coworkers and friends that had a Hyundai though.

Not saying don't get one, but do take the time to carefully research the specific model and engine you're getting should you choose to get one.

They have enabled touchscreen when you are in Carplay/Android Auto mode now. But it still sits back far. That may vary by model though. But the CX-5 has that now.

I mean if you're like the other guy and comparing to a Mistubishi Mirage, yeah probably.

When I went from a Lexus IS350 to a Tesla Model 3 insurance cost was basically unchanged.

Likewise when Motortrend compared Tesla insurance costs to the most comparable BMW they found the costs were similar

https://www.motortrend.com/featur...nce-costs/

In a number of their comparisons the Tesla was cheaper than the BMW to insure... and on both directions the difference was quite small for both 3 and Y.... the X was the only place with a really big difference (and it's somewhat famously the Faberge egg of EVs)

Ha, I know, but people at least know CR. Better than the dumb JD Power results. My personal view is about the same though, Lexus, Toyota, Mazda and Honda all good choices for vehicles, though Honda has slipped a bit in my mind in recent years.

My gripe with Mazda is too large wheel rims, I'd prefer an inch or two smaller wheel for more rubber and better ride. Toyota is doing it too now, driving me nuts. Want the features of the top trims with the wheels of the base model lol. Replaced tires on my Mazda recently and was able to fit one size larger/taller tire on the wheel with no rubbing. Made a world of improvement in smoothness for me at least.
