Currently have a '19 CX-5 with 20k mi. It's been at the dealership for the last 3 weeks because the tranny died. At least it's under warranty and they give me a rental Mazda.

It's nice to see a decent vehicle retailing for under $30K plus cash incentives. The market has finally gotten to a point where it's completely walking away from $80,000 F150s, and Big 3 dealers are in a serious panic because they have way more money tied up in vehicles than what the market will pay for them. Every bubble eventually bursts, and I see a wave of dealership bankruptcies coming. Hard to pity them after their $10,000 "market adjustments".

I'll get downvoted for this, but check insurance rates before you pull the trigger on this - they may have immobilizers now, but Kia Boyz don't know the difference. Also, you'll want to check your oil every time you stop for gas, and keep the receipts for every single oil change if you want that 10 year warranty to cover the eventual engine replacement.

Anyone thinking about buying this please look at edmunds.com and see how quickly this vehicle depreciates. It's not good. Here are some examples for base SE trim in average condition with no defects.

2020 with 40000 miles
$13000 trade in or $16000 private party

2018 with 70000 miles
$10700 trade in or $13800 private party

2015 with 106000 miles
$5500 trade in or $8500 private party
Those are different model, much smaller and way worse tech and car overall.

They wear out after about 8-10 years on average. The car should easily last 15+ years.
Again, no proof of that. In addition, 99% of the population does not keep their car for 15 years! lol

I mean if you're like the other guy and comparing to a Mistubishi Mirage, yeah probably.

When I went from a Lexus IS350 to a Tesla Model 3 insurance cost was basically unchanged.

Likewise when Motortrend compared Tesla insurance costs to the most comparable BMW they found the costs were similar

https://www.motortrend.com/featur...nce-costs/

In a number of their comparisons the Tesla was cheaper than the BMW to insure... and on both directions the difference was quite small for both 3 and Y.... the X was the only place with a really big difference (and it's somewhat famously the Faberge egg of EVs)
Went from Lexus to Tesla and still happy. My 10 year old RX drives smoother than the brand new Model y any day

All things considered, new car supply will be low well into 2024. With used cars lagging behind that at least a few years, it will be years before we hit pre-Covid levels, if ever. Yes, some analysts predict that an oversupply of vehicles will lead to a "price wars" that sends prices plummeting, since production will exceed sales by 6% this year and some vehicles will require price cuts to get sold off of lots. However, the average new car price just dropped, but only 1.1%, but the average transaction price for new cars is freakin 48k! So even if it will drop a bit more, sticker price will still be significant. So the prices are still high and no bubble burst expected as someone commenting here, is not gonna happen…unfortunately.

As the owner of a 2017 Hyundai Sonata, I can say with authority that I will get around town via the city bus before I ever consider getting another Hyundai.

It was ok for the first few years, but it's become increasingly problematic - seals leaking, burning oil, paint peeling and flaking, random bits falling off or breaking. And Hyundai dealerships are the absolute worst to deal with. It's paid for, so I have no choice but to drive it until the wheels fall off (which may happen mercifully soon), but never again.

lol you're clueless. I have a model 3 and I have never owned a car that had depreciated in value so fast thanks to the wonderful markdowns and trying to maximize volumes. Now every early adopter suffers
If you purchased during the peak prices in the last two years you are far from an early adopter.
I feel really sorry for those folks that bought their Teslas (or for that matter many other vehicles with high MSRPs plus dealer markups etc) during the last two years. They must feel bitter seeing the same car being sold brand new for about $20K lesser.
OTOH, it's a great opportunity for folks to purchase an EV like the model 3 or Y or even other brands at huge markdowns now plus get the $7500 tax benefit if they qualify and to top it off barely pay for maintenance or gasoline for the life of the car.

how exactly is Tesla changing their game? They jacked up their car pricing the most and now their EVs are crashing in prices the most.......

As result majority of model Y owners are horribly underwater on their vehicle. Not something I would be recommending others to do....
Did you not have any reading comprehension? He said Tesla is changing the game aka chaging the car buying experience. He is correct with the direct to consumer model without any mandatory dealership package addons and market adjustment pricing. He never said Tesla is changing their game. Currently a LR Model Y (AWD) is in fact cheaper than a Tucson limited FWD with tax incentives. That is before you consider any dealership addons or market adjustment prices like the ones every Hyundai dealers around me are forcing on you if you want to buy a vehicle from them (Clay Cooley Hyundai of Dallas, Huffines Hyundai Plano, Freeman Hyundai, and Van Hyundai if you want to give them a call to confirm that they still do mandatory dealership packages and/or a market adjustment price on top of that). If your local Hyundai dealership doesn't do that then good for you, but it should be this way for everyone. A car buying experience without the BS that you can order online and get exactly what you want without any markups should an option from every car manufacture or standard

You can't compare the two. The Lexus is targeted towards a more "senior" demographic with suspension built like you are not driving but rowing a boat in a placid lake. Model Y has some semblance of road feel to it to connect the driver to what the car is actually doing.

This. Car stealerships are a consumer bane and will be glad to see that parasitic layer between manufacturers and end consumers gone.

Has 24 santafe been released yet?
No they haven't and the dealerships around me said Hyundai won't let customers order 24 Santa Fes because they haven't been released yet (as of December 15, 2023 when I went to ask while getting an oil change at the dealership). That's how you know that guy is lying and full of shit. If you're going to lie, at least make up a scenario with a car that you can actually purchase. Only car reviewers and influencers have their hand on a 24 Santa Fe if they're not working for Hyundai. The every day person can't buy one yet.

I've found Nissan and Hyundai are the best used cars for this very reason if you're looking for reliable transportation at a value. The "I only buy Honda or Toyota" crowd won't consider them despite Consumer's Report and others giving them similar ratings. My used Altima was $6000 less than an almost identical accord right before Covid. I'm in the market again and looking at Hyundai and Nissan again if I go used.

as an owner of 2 hyundai cars, these are super reliable, doesn't burn oil or have carbon build up problems. engine doesn't fail early at 60k, rarely any recalls and design flaws. best resell value and absolutely no problem getting them insured. if you don't believe me, just google around. i would pay 30% over msrp to get one,

Tesla is heavily discounting the model 3 and Y if you take delivery this year. I suggest you jump in. It will save you a lot of money. Come back to this forum in four months and thank me.
