Apart from above issue this is a really great sound system for home entertainment.

When I'm watching something that's just broadcast in stereo, then I'm ok with adaptive mode, because whatever I'm watching probably isn't going to sound that good anyways.
Adaptive Mode works best when the audio stream is in plain stereo format. It also seems to work well for watching sports, as it routes the crowd sounds to the surrounds and leaves the announcer's voice on the soundbar.
I boosted the wide and top channels and bumped center channel down one notch (I'm like 11ft away)
Overall very happy. Was a drop in replacement for my MS650 (same mounting brackets as before) which made upgrading a breeze.
I will say, my MS650 was probably about 70% as good as this Q900C. It wasn't as huge of an upgrade as I expected, but I have plans for my old Soundbar so it's not that bad. Much wider sound stage thanks to the top and wide speakers - which makes it worthwhile for me!

I'm not complaining though, it sounded great that way. I plan on using adaptive mode every time I watch wrestling.
Also took another slickdealers' advise and got the wireless 2 channel rears kit for $97, bestbuy open box. These were out of stock the last few days, but just came back today, delivery is slow….wont get it till the 16th with no option to pick up.
Had been eyeing the visio M elevate at 499, but I have a 2 story living room and dont think the tiny woofer will do the job. Was debating the 910, but just saw too many reviewers complaining about the weak wired rear channels. Everyone seems much happier with the upgraded wireless rears…and the larger bar/subwoofer in the 900 kit.
This should blow the vizio AWAY! Thanks to all for the tips!

When people return it takes some time before the techs "test" it, they will list them as open box available for shipment. Seems a lot of this inventory goes online after the stores close.
Mine was shipped from Colorado to Michigan….so I dont think availability is location based other than to indicate you could pick it up.

I tried the JBL 9.1 as I am a JBL fan and didnt really expect Samsung to compete in the sound space. Also not the most "cool" to have a samsung soundbar IMO.
liked the JBL idea of the detachable speakers, and the sub is STRONG. Unfortunately the Reviews for it are spot on, the sound is just average, voices are low without any ample adjustment, and the bar is very narrow sounding…..
I hate to admit it but this samsung surround is SO much better for the surround effects - even without the rears. This is what I was looking for - the sound comes from everywhere. The JBL wins on bass, but the Sammy does everything else better (and bass is also very good). Note I only feel this way on the 900 / 930/ 990 soundbar. The others have less drivers and the sound is not as good. Everyones room is different…if you can swing it try both - samsung returns are free via mail so no risk.
