FYI I bought this system along with my S90C for $400. Although the system is identical to Q990C minus rear speakers, I have been having issues keeping it connected to wifi. The soundbar always disconnects from Wifi after 9-10 hrs. I have so far set it up 6-7 times and each time it goes offline in Smartthings app. So if you are ready to hard wire it to your tv at all times and dont need the Wifi capabilities (Alexa+smartthings zigbee hub) this may or may not be the best option for you. YMMV but this is my experience so far.

Apart from above issue this is a really great sound system for home entertainment.

Make sure you update the firmware to the latest release especially if you get the rear speakers. It makes a huge difference. I tried to update through smart things app, it said it was the latest release. But needed to plug in a usb drive to get it to update.

I decided to give adaptive mode another try based on your reply.
When I'm watching something that's just broadcast in stereo, then I'm ok with adaptive mode, because whatever I'm watching probably isn't going to sound that good anyways.
This is 100% correct. When the audio stream already contains true multi-channel info Standard Mode works best, because it reproduces audio exactly the way the creator intended. Adaptive Mode screws this up by altering the original sound placement.

Adaptive Mode works best when the audio stream is in plain stereo format. It also seems to work well for watching sports, as it routes the crowd sounds to the surrounds and leaves the announcer's voice on the soundbar.

Adaptive sounds best to my ears across the most amount of sources.

I boosted the wide and top channels and bumped center channel down one notch (I'm like 11ft away)

Overall very happy. Was a drop in replacement for my MS650 (same mounting brackets as before) which made upgrading a breeze.

I will say, my MS650 was probably about 70% as good as this Q900C. It wasn't as huge of an upgrade as I expected, but I have plans for my old Soundbar so it's not that bad. Much wider sound stage thanks to the top and wide speakers - which makes it worthwhile for me!

I agree, mostly - I dont watch a lot of real sports, just (mostly) pro wrestling (yeah yeah, I know it's fake), and there was a PPV on the other night, so I put on adaptive mode (and cranked up the rear levels) and it was much nicer than standard mode, but the announcers did come from the rear channels as well, not just the front.

I'm not complaining though, it sounded great that way. I plan on using adaptive mode every time I watch wrestling.

Deal is live again, I just got the Q900c for 507.94 with the EPP discount, referral code, and $25 gift code for setting up a new samsung account (they send you an email code for your first purchase).
Also took another slickdealers' advise and got the wireless 2 channel rears kit for $97, bestbuy open box. These were out of stock the last few days, but just came back today, delivery is slow….wont get it till the 16th with no option to pick up.

Had been eyeing the visio M elevate at 499, but I have a 2 story living room and dont think the tiny woofer will do the job. Was debating the 910, but just saw too many reviewers complaining about the weak wired rear channels. Everyone seems much happier with the upgraded wireless rears…and the larger bar/subwoofer in the 900 kit.
This should blow the vizio AWAY! Thanks to all for the tips!

How did you find the 9500s open box at best buy? I'm checking on the website and it's always unavailable nearby

Right now I'm seeing $560 for Q900C soundbar. Should I get it or wait for any better deal in February.

Also, how it is compared to JBL 9.1 which is available for $599

I got it for 560 and delivering next week, definitely there'll be good deals in Feb, but for me it's not a significant difference.

Check each evening and in the morning. Took two nights before I found one appear.
When people return it takes some time before the techs "test" it, they will list them as open box available for shipment. Seems a lot of this inventory goes online after the stores close.
Mine was shipped from Colorado to Michigan….so I dont think availability is location based other than to indicate you could pick it up.

Id jump on it at 560 and use a promo code to get it down 5% more….inventory is out frequently during the education promo on this model…..and its much more expensive without the EDU deal.

I tried the JBL 9.1 as I am a JBL fan and didnt really expect Samsung to compete in the sound space. Also not the most "cool" to have a samsung soundbar IMO.
liked the JBL idea of the detachable speakers, and the sub is STRONG. Unfortunately the Reviews for it are spot on, the sound is just average, voices are low without any ample adjustment, and the bar is very narrow sounding…..
I hate to admit it but this samsung surround is SO much better for the surround effects - even without the rears. This is what I was looking for - the sound comes from everywhere. The JBL wins on bass, but the Sammy does everything else better (and bass is also very good). Note I only feel this way on the 900 / 930/ 990 soundbar. The others have less drivers and the sound is not as good. Everyones room is different…if you can swing it try both - samsung returns are free via mail so no risk.
