If you're not part of the expired D15 thread, some of us have internal crossover damage. You might wanna pull off the binding post cover (4 Allen screws) and see if anything was broken loose in shipping. Something about Def Tech's packaging and UPS gorillas results in damaged crossovers. I ordered several of the older BP series Def tech speakers years ago and several had damaged crossovers from being dropped.
It looks like an inductor near the back is subject to snapping loose.

Sending back my D15s and grabbed these. For $150 per speaker difference, from the previous D15 deal, seems worth it to me for the bigger speaker size. Plus move from the 5.5 to 6.5 midrange drivers. Or maybe I'm just over compensating. 🤣🤣
It depends on how to look at it. D17 is about 1.6 times more expensive than D15 for each speaker($250 vs $400). This is my bedroom system and I'd rather stick with D15. I'm excited to try them out when they arrive later this week. I believe this would be sufficient to use it with my NAD C328.

How much wattage is needed for the d15? Thanks
It depends on how loud you enjoy music. I have experience pairing Thiel speakers (Sensitivity of 83dB), with a 30-watt(15w each) class A tube amp. It was more than enough to enjoy my music in a 14x14-sized room for my taste. On Thiel speaker, the 80w((40w each) solid-state amp was producing much better musical presentation in the pop/rock genre.

Those numbers don't equate with reality.
So they're lying about the measurements? Why would they slap such inefficient numbers in their specs?

Received mine. Works fine, feels like an upgrade compared to what I had. They are quite heavy though.

What speaker are you comparing to(What do you have)? Just curious.

Copy/paste from the D15 thread --

Would these be a worthy upgrade from the Jamo S809s? Reducing from 3.0 to 2.0 set up (+sub much later) in a large open room with mostly off-axis couch seating (long portion of couch almost in line with left speaker).

WAF so far only on these

Very cheap, embarrassingly old Harman Kardon front surround speakers that I had for about a decade. The reason I liked them is that I could hide them inside the entertainment center, for optics it was great not the sound quality. The packaging on those D17s was sizeable. It is all relative, but I would not be able to lift both boxes with D17 without injuring myself.

As I am slowly upgrading my speakers set up I moved to SVS SB-2000 Pro sub, Klipsch center speaker and these two front surround speakers. I keep using smaller HK rear surround speakers and the second HK subwoofer. For now I am driving them with a Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A2080 A/V receiver from 2019. All purchased via SD lol

Almost all manufacturers embellish their numbers. Erin's Audio Corner on Youtube has a video about it called "BS Speaker Sensitivity Ratings and "Dynamics"". Generally they're 1-5db lower than the manufacturer's claims, with some Klipsch models being even worse.

This has the same size Tweeters and Midrange as the D15 with the only difference being the passive 10" radiator??

I didn't say the sensitivity measurements were wrong. I'm saying you can't reliably say you need X amount more power to reach the same volume on this speaker vs its sibling unless you are already maxing out the capability of the amp your using and you actually have a reliable measurement of the amps capabilities versus its "specs".
Speaker A with X sensitivity and speaker B with Y sensitivity could both be powered to the loudness you are comfortable with using the same amp. Or the same could be true but while using totally different amps with different power ratings and in one case you max out your loudness preference while using 50% of the capability of one amp and 70% of the capability of the second amp.

No. D15 has 5.25" midrange and woofers and D17 come with 6.5"

Decisions decisions. Maybe an AV expert can chime in.

Should I sell my Klipsch nines, add a bit more to my budget, and buy the D17 + D5C + D9 + AV receiver + sub (maybe I'll get the sub later) to get a full 5.1 setup?

My use case is probably 70% music and 30% movies.

How would you compare this with Klipsch RP-8000F speakers?
