If you're not part of the expired D15 thread, some of us have internal crossover damage. You might wanna pull off the binding post cover (4 Allen screws) and see if anything was broken loose in shipping. Something about Def Tech's packaging and UPS gorillas results in damaged crossovers. I ordered several of the older BP series Def tech speakers years ago and several had damaged crossovers from being dropped.
It looks like an inductor near the back is subject to snapping loose.

Hah funnily enough like a 20 year old Sony DA2000ES. Source currently is my computer via Toslink. It's so old the cool AVR stickers that every receiver seems to have fell off long ago. It's still a surprisingly good receiver and 2 channel amp. Its capable of only 7.1. Predates Dobly TrueHD/DTS Master Audio. I bought it new in early 2000s. As I recall the older Sony ES AVRs really had a good reputation then. They've since been eclipsed by other brands now though.

I actually really enjoy the D15s on their own and as a comparison to the 9s.. I've had a decent amount of Klipsch gear over the last 5 or so years. I really like Klipsch speakers with their bright and forward sound. I think with The Nines especially they've dialed in the best of anything I've heard from any of their bookshelf's. In comparison these remind me sooo soo much of my Sennheiser HD600s. Almost pancake flat response with very high clarity. If you have listened to those Headphones I consider these D15s the HD600 of speakers. Very clinical, minimal but perfectly balanced bass. I have it Plus 8 db on the receiver and they'll get pretty decent bass. Not as much as The Nines though with it's awesome Bass Enhancer. After listening to the D15s I now know why people sometimes call Klipsch fatiguing. I don't think Klipsch are but these are so smooth in comparison. They get loud, obviously in my closed space. But I like these things so much this is my second pair. The first I have downstairs in my family room. That space is much larger and they get as loud as I'm really good listening to them. I am half considering getting the D17s for downstairs as mains and move the D15s to rears. I should add that The Nines has great bass but I happen to love a lot of it. So I actually have a Rythmik F12. I haven't done much listening with the F12 and D15s yet as I want to break them in on their own first.

Thanks! Actual listening opinion on a Slickdeals thread, who knew. Yes, I think I'm looking to go "more neutral / flat" like HD600 and then EQ-in only a tiny preference. My current is Klipsch RP-500 II which are supposed to be some of the flattest Klipsch-es. Don't worry bass-lover, I also have a 12" subwoofer

If these D17 go to $600 I'll probably buy them, giant floor speakers and all. haha

Aesthetically (subjective) and Material Quality (objective) These are a major cut above the 8000s. They have a high quality 6 coats of gloss white or black and the front baffle is one giant piece of aluminum. The Klipsch aren't ugly or anything but they more your standard wooden baffle and you typically have to pay several $100 to get them in gloss black. I think these outclass the Rf8000s (I personally own a pair of rp280 which are almost identical to the 8000s) in the looks and material department.

With regards to sound quality they are both really good. If you like a brighter more forward treble sound the Klipsch are for you. They can get a little fatigueing at higher volumes. If you want a more balanced sound with a better Mid range the D15 or D17 is for you. Honestly though you'd probably be happy with the sound out of either one. I sure am. I love them both but since I just got the D15s they are what I'm using now. Hopefully that helps.

That's good. I have not heard the rp 500 IIs but I have a pair of RP 160Ms (the predecessor to rp600s). To me I thought the The Nines sounded less in your face with the treble than those although they're still not bad.

Did they make you return the entire set of two speakers or only the damaged one? For an exchange.
