I was able to get it done. You have to call in to cancel your current account. The cancellation order takes less an hour to finalize. Once it's cancelled, your address will be eligible to sign up for a new account. You can use the same name and SSN, just create a new FiOS online account after you place your order.

Actual disconnection came in less than 5 minutes after my call with support ended. But the cancellation order was still shown as pending for around an hour I think? Once the cancellation order went through, FiOS released the address to be eligible for new service again. You just have to wait a little before you can sign up again. Otherwise, even if you select you're signing up for a second service, their system will block your new order as there's another order (cancellation) pending.

I'd say you can get the new service activated in about 40 minutes from the moment you hang up your phone with phone support for cancellation.

I also have verizon wireless for other discounts.
I use my own router but I'd say if you create a new account, even with the same name / SSN, you'll be getting a new router and you should return your old router. But you should be able to activate your new service with the old Verizon router and return it later once your new one arrives.

I've tried 6 different addresses in 4 different states (CA, MI, HI, and FL) and none of them come up as having the option for Verizon home Internet.

Lame.

They force you to get the expensive 1 gb or 2 gb plans, when in fact all you need is the 300 mb plan, so basically you are paying about $300 for the Series X with that extra $40 cost per month for 6 months plus any setup charges and fees etc, so you have to go through the hassle of cancelling and reordering the plan.

its better to buy the Series X for $350 at Walmart and be Done. Pass.

Most people over pay, get more bandwidth than they need. Unless you have a house full of gamers, or run a hosting service, 100-200mb is plenty.

Not sure it is worth the bother or the risk if they do not offer something to existing customers..
