Here's a trick:
Use coupon "dash" for 20% off of anything when you add an item from their flash sale. It takes the discount from the entire order. Here's a $10 filler item:

I found a Gibson les paul classic used, added the filler item and it took 20% off the entire order.

Fingers crossed its a nice experience.
Man, Sam Ash is no good. Ordered from them and they sent a color I didn't order. Called and asked for RMA and they were like, yeah, we'll send you an email. Never heard from them again. Pass.
Can confirm... Customer service not the greatest. Busted knob on a LP Classic I ordered and they wanted me to drive 2 hours away to the nearest retail site.

Their email support seems nonexistent. I had a finish concern with a guitar I bought from them and emailed them a picture. Turns out their spam filter automatically drops emails with images in it. So I sent one without... never got a response. Great customer service. lol.

Their "get a giftcard after purchase!" thing is total bullshit, too. They take like a month to email it to you, and then give you like 2 weeks to redeem it.

The only upshot is they have stores around the country you can take stuff to instead of paying $$$ to ship it back to them lol.

I ordered a used guitar online from Sam Ash in mid-October. Didn't hear anything after the order. Called the store that had it about 16 hours after ordering. "Oh, that was stolen two weeks ago." Oopsie.

Regarding the amp in the OP, I'm guessing there's an MkIII coming soon. It looks to me like this is a clearance type of price. Good enough price though if you like the Katana.

Wow, I'm surprised by your guys' experiences. In the past 2-3 months I've ordered and received two PRS SE DGTs and a Katana Head 100 MkII and everything arrived in perfect condition - no complaints whatsoever. I actually thought the DGT orders were canceled but it was a PayPal auth timeout and a rep from Sam Ash reached out to push the orders through. The term of the GC is kind of sucky but it's better than nothing.

Same, I've had great experiences with Sam Ash in the last year. Both online and in physical store. I had to replace a guitar I ordered from them as it got damaged in shipping, and the process was painless and quick.
I do recommend you call them for issues and not just email though.

Thats exactly what I've been thinking. Everyone has it on sale (although not by this much). I have a Katana 50 MKII that I'm trying to sell. It's a decent amp, but I wanted something with an effects loop. I briefly considered the Katana 100, but I'm not a fan of having to hook up a computer via USB to customize anything. I decided to give the Fender GTX100 a try.

Yes, calling is best with them. Or chatting them online is good too. Email they are slow to respond with I've noticed.

Yea it's kind of irritating to have to hook stuff up but that's the nature of the beast with these all in one types of deals. It also works with your phone or tablet and the Katana Librarian app btw which is pretty handy. That stinks the 50 doesnt have an effects loop. I have the 100 head and it's great. I think it's more flexible and it does have the FX Loop on it which is nice

The OP says the coupon is good for 50 bucks off anything over $300. Not Katana specific I guess.

I just had a return last month and it was a nightmare. Ended up needing the credit card company to bail me out. Sam Ash sucks for customer service, you'd better not need a return.

I owned (and just last week, sold) a Fender Mustang GTX100. I think it's much better than the Katana sound-wise, and I preferred its Bluetooth control using the Fender Tone app. Bring able to serve as an interface to the computer is nice too.

Overall, though, the GTX suffered from annoying BT disconnects and so-so quality through headphones (which would be a plus if it sounded good).

The biggest issue with it and the Katana both is simply that they don't sound *great*. (I bought and sold a MkII Katana 50 twice.) There are some decent amp models on both, but neither had myself that sounded accurate to the amp they were supposed to be modeling. (The GTX Princeton reverb, for example, was one of my favorites on the amp, but it sounded nothing like an actual Princeton Reverb when placed side by side.) Neither got nearly as loud as the power ratings suggested. My GTX100 (100 watts) was loud when dialed all the way up but was easily beaten by my EVH 5150 Iconic 40W **on its 10W setting.**

I think you have to get to the Axe FX level to get decent modeling, or use a computer solution like Amplitude. In a standalone amp, I still prefer classic tube/valve (all tube or hybrid) and analog solid state amps. The Monoprice Stage Right 15W tube amp (full price: $280 or so and worth it; recently on sale for $200, a price not seen in a while) sounds *really* good, both clean and overdriven, and has an effects loop. It makes me smile in a way the Katana and GTX amps never did. Resale on the modelers is poor. Lots of used listings (which is an indicator in its own right) with depressed prices. I sold my GTX100 in mint condition for about half of a new one, and it took ages to find a buyer.

I write this to help newcomers in figuring out what amp to get, not to throw shade on Katana or other modelers. The Katana has plenty of fans, especially because it's lightweight and versatile. In a mix, I think they sound fine. The models are fun The Katana's . 25W mode is a plus, since you can get full "overdrive" sounds at any volume because there's no tube to "drive" in the first place. But I don't think they're magic, and it's worth trying alternatives before settling on such an important part of an electric guitar.
