This card is used for media boxes where you want performance in encoding and decoding. You also want it to be power efficient on sleep and running. That is where they shine in the those PLEX media servers. They just run the power supplied by the express slot. There are probably plenty of used GPU cards that can beat this in performance and cost less. But I'm looking for something that can perform and run 20 to 50 watts since the PC will be on 24/7. So I'm looking at operational costs too

your card offers 15% more performance at double the TDP (150W vs 75W for the intel card), your card launched at the $169 price point, this card launched at the $149 price point. this card also blows your card away when it comes to encoding. I have a RX 580 8GB and I don't even bother with it for encoding, my onboard intel graphics blow it away.

Low profile refers to the bracket height, not the cooler thickness.

The thinnest, most powerful low profile GPU option that I'm aware of is the Yeston GTX 1650 on Amazon, it is low profile and also single slot design.

Thats not a deal. Thats standard price.
MSRP was $150 upon release. This is $100 sale, plus the benefit of low profile to boost a more compact sized machine.

Would this be useful at all for a NVR for security cameras? I'm looking to install a DIY camera system with Frigate or something running on a combo media server, nas, nvr thing is the half baked plan atm.
I am running a different ASRock A380 card under Proxmox passed through to a Windows 11 VM running Blue Iris, NextPVR and Plex. It works very well for this.

What was the process like to expose ARC card as a vGPU for you? Everything I've read It seems that getting a ARC as a vGPU exposed to VMs in proxmox is somewhat of a cumbersome process. At least it's not as easy as how I remembered it when I used ESX. I'm debating if I should get this card and see if I can get it to work in my proxmox for couple windows VMs.

After all these years it still can't beat a 1650 LP, I don't see the point.
@super_android, I think you'd be better off checking the used market.
there is the gigabyte lp rtx 4060 for $325 if that is something you are looking for.

The ARC cards require a hookscript very similar to the one required for the older AMD cards like the RX 580 or other Polaris cards. The hookscript allows the GPU to reset after a reboot or shutdown. Other than that it was super simple, just the basic lines in the grub and modules files. No driver blacklisting of any kind is required.

It seems like you might be a little confused with the ARC cards and possibly the Alder Lake iGPU which can only be passed through using virtual functions. I am fully passing the card through and using the HDMI and DisplayPorts.

Thanks. Yes, its possible I'm mixing up the igpu passthrough. I'm new to proxmox. Used Vmware ESX for years and finally decided to move to proxmox. I'll look into the hookscript. Appreciate the response.

It's possible! Just look at your PCIe slot. There needs to at least be room for a double wide. The height won't be a problem (height coming UP from the motherboard.) The width may still be a problem. You'll also need to have at least two ports to fit the LP bracket included with the A380.

ETA Prime recently covered this card: https://youtu.be/O-QvLoldMQY?si=5cQg2p_sZnWC4dt8

Intel has been working hard on their drivers and it seems to be paying off.

this is perfect for low budget gpu for basic gaming and emulations, im sure it can do light video editing in 1080p probably not 4k. i would use this for the small SFF dells on ebay. it would be a perfect gpu for a first gpu for a child who wants to get into pc's with out a huge budget

my Asrock 570 8GB card I bought in 2019 for less performs better than this.
I feel like this is comparing a Ford Mustang with a dodge ram pickup. Each one is a 4 wheeled vehicles, and excel at what they were designed for.

Ie the mustang sucks at hauling hay. But excels at handling and high speeds.
