Full powered 4080 with i9 for $1500?? Even factoring in its a last gen i9, this seems like a crazy good deal. What am I missing?

The screen is the same one they put on $500-$600 gaming laptops, it's terrible.

While this is a great price for the other hardware (no other 4080 laptop is close to $1.5k), I would only consider it if I'm gaming the majority of the time on an external monitor and just use the screen when traveling or whatnot....it really is a terrible display with very poor color.

Also a 144hz 1080p (or 1920x1200 screen in this case) paired with a 4080 is just a really weird pairing. You would expect either a super high refresh rate 1080p screen or 1440p considering the FPS a 4080 can push.

No mention of screen brightness makes me feel this is likely where they cut corners. I'd assume it's 300-350 nits at the most, and considering it's FHD+ instead of QHD+ already indicates a cheaper screen.

The rest of the specs are great, though! Especially at this price point. I wonder how thermal performance bares here.

Oof. I am not a screen hater, but this is really mismatched badly. Even at this $1500 price point I think they missed the mark. At $1600 with a decent screen and this would be a steal.

Everything looks solid for the price, except for the garbage screen they slapped on this. Completely mutilates an otherwise solid looking deal sadly.

Havent seen that, cant vouch for HP gaming laptops but MSI is usually near bottom of barrel and that has a much better screen than this so I'd definitely spring for that over this MSI.

That's the MSI way. Sucker people in with some killer specs on paper to create the perception of great value, only to discover a bunch of mismatched hardware and QC-absent corner cutting slapped into a garbage machine that lasts all of 6 months. Most long-time pc power users on Slickdeals have been burned by MSI before. Hence all the warnings in these threads. We all have PTSD every time one of our deal alerts goes off and we see it's an MSI computer.

I have a legion 5P and never use the laptop screen for gaming. So this laptop would be perfect if it can handle the thermals

I need a new gaming laptop to replace my 3.5 year old MSI Raider, and would love a 4080 but I will never get another MSI laptop. The plastic pieces covering the fans started breaking off and falling apart almost immediately. The monitor hinges broke off. Driver/Firmware updates stopped after 6 months.
