I got Pixel6a a year ago in a similar deal from Mint. Even though Mint claimed that phone is locked, I tried inserting a sim from an INTL carrier and it worked. When I called Mint after 12 months then they told me that Google phones are not locked so there is no need to unlock.
I am not sure about 7pro but mine 6a was unlocked from the day I received.

Ported my number to Google Voice many years ago, been using Mint most of those years as a "new customer" by getting a new number each time and setting GV to forward calls to the new number each time (a few quick taps in the GV app does it). This time I'll have to get my own number somewhere else to port in ($3 by setting up a new Google account & porting that out is my most likely path), but everything else is the same.

I look like a new account to Mint each time by using Gmail's "plus sign" feature whereby you insert some random text preceded by a plus sign right before the @ in your email address and that extra stuff looks like a different address to Mint, but Gmail ignores it. For example:

[email protected]

Looks unique to Mint, but still gets processed to the [email protected] address by Google. I often use the company and date for the random text to ensure it's unique, so I'd have:

[email protected]

Last year during the big Mint sale I got this phone and ported our numbers over. I'm a fan of the phone (no fingerprint issues) and Mint's pricing, but beware there are known MMS issues the Pixel 7 Pro on Mint that are not fixed after over a year.

Texting via group texts sometimes doesn't go through (or come through) and sending pictures via text just don't work. After troubleshooting for a year with support and reddit forums, there still isn't a fix. It got better after switching the APN and found one that works OK, but it's never consistent.

Just a warning to anyone considering the switch.

Reading their unlock policy on the website says it can be unlocked 12 months after initial activation by calling customer care, so essentially locked only for 12m
thx u for the info.

Can we port the number and activate the pixel with that number use the sim with a different unlocked phone and keep the pixel aside for 12 months will it be unlocked ? Or the service needs to be on the device to request unlock ?

Just for anyone wondering....I did the last 7 pro deal.

The phone works perfectly straightup on Mint. Put in your current sim and done. I sold my year of service. The service is NOT tied to anything. It doesn't have to be used on this phone. It doesn't have to be used by you. If it doesn't get used it just dies.

This deal is insanely good.
Who ever buys the SIM / service would need to port in a number to use it, correct?

Insane deal. Got this for my wife on the last sale for way more. Don't even hesitate.

Do keep in mind that you may have a screen replacement done in 1st year, Google contracts with uBreakIFix for free replacements within that time frame. Good as new.
Can you elaborate a little on this? The screen needs to be replaced because it is known to fail? You get one free screen replacement in the first year of you drop it?

Yes. It has to be a new number to the Mint network.

I understand that. But Verizon phones used to be also locked, and when you go abroad you can use sim cards from those countries. I assume it's the same ... Makes no sense. I mean you go to another country where mint does not even work, how do you get by? I'd assume foreign sim cards work...
