I got Pixel6a a year ago in a similar deal from Mint. Even though Mint claimed that phone is locked, I tried inserting a sim from an INTL carrier and it worked. When I called Mint after 12 months then they told me that Google phones are not locked so there is no need to unlock.
I am not sure about 7pro but mine 6a was unlocked from the day I received.
Ported my number to Google Voice many years ago, been using Mint most of those years as a "new customer" by getting a new number each time and setting GV to forward calls to the new number each time (a few quick taps in the GV app does it). This time I'll have to get my own number somewhere else to port in ($3 by setting up a new Google account & porting that out is my most likely path), but everything else is the same.

I look like a new account to Mint each time by using Gmail's "plus sign" feature whereby you insert some random text preceded by a plus sign right before the @ in your email address and that extra stuff looks like a different address to Mint, but Gmail ignores it. For example:

[email protected]

Looks unique to Mint, but still gets processed to the [email protected] address by Google. I often use the company and date for the random text to ensure it's unique, so I'd have:

[email protected]
Last year during the big Mint sale I got this phone and ported our numbers over. I'm a fan of the phone (no fingerprint issues) and Mint's pricing, but beware there are known MMS issues the Pixel 7 Pro on Mint that are not fixed after over a year.

Texting via group texts sometimes doesn't go through (or come through) and sending pictures via text just don't work. After troubleshooting for a year with support and reddit forums, there still isn't a fix. It got better after switching the APN and found one that works OK, but it's never consistent.

Just a warning to anyone considering the switch.

I am smelling some BS. Looks like there was another order cancel. I ordered right when this posted yesterday and just got the "Officially canceled" email. When I ordered I got an "We're reviewing your order" email. I paid with Paypal by way of credit card. I checked Paypal and the payment processed. I checked with my credit card which showed the pending amount. Checked the order status on mint and the status area said "No information, contact care" I chatted care they said it is just processing. Checked back with my credit card this morning and it still showed pending. Chatted back to Mint before seeing the cancelation email and they told me its been credited because it was refused by my bank and the phone offer is no longer available. Nothing they can do but recommend I watch their website.. thanks

I hope not for others who were able to order but, it feels like its some BS around either they ran out of stock or some sort of price mistake they are pulling the plug on.
Did you ever get an "your order has been received" e-mail?

I got the "we're reviewing your order" because my shipping address was different from my billing. Called in, they said it was okay, and then said I'd be getting a "order has been received" e-mail, which I did get shortly thereafter. And then it'd be shipped out today.

They get you with the free flagship phone and then you realize a year later they've swindled you into the best wireless plan on the market with great customer service and reasonable international rates. Damn you, Ryan Reynolds!
He sold to T-Mobile earlier this year, around the time they did their initial Pixel 7 sales but before it was SIM-Locked. This current trend of SIM-locking their phones with pre-paid plan is 100% a T-Mobile decision

I did not. I had the same situation where my billing and shipping were different and I verified with the chat rep that it was not an issue when I was checking on the status after getting that "verifying a few things" email. Told everything was good on their end as well, it was just processing. Next email was the cancel.

I guess I should be happy I got my free side of bacon email and the code so maybe I can just get completely free bacon.

What happens if I don't port in a number, and I'm willing to wait 12 months for unlock?
I understand 6 months will be without service.
So I purchased this, but I don't see where you guys are saying there is a port-in required? I got the 12-month physical SIM without it mentioning anything about port-in. It's $99 for the phone and $90 for the 1-year plan. No port-in.

Is SIM locking just mean this phone is locked to Mint for the year?

You can use this phone for trade in deals if nothing else. Google is currently offering $315 trade in value for the Pixel 7 pro.

Yes. I got two of the Pixel 7s with 1 year pre-paid but they were unlocked at the time. This promo (and subsequent Mint Mobile promos since then) have all been locked to Mint, for the 1 year period it seems. My friend bought a Metro phone on SD thinking he can just plug in his T-Mobile SIM but found out the phone's locked for 12 months, despite also being a T-Mobile property. Since the Sprint merger and resignation of John Legere, T-Mobile is just another consumer-unfriendly telecom company

Metro phones unlock after 6 months (with or without continuous service).
