Obviously you can find better deals,
but in general you wouldn't want to lock your $1000 bike with $5 lock or spend $70 on a lock for a $200 bike.
If you phrased it "If the bike can't go with you, don't go with the bike." I think it makes more sense as a saying.
That would make your message: Don't take the bike if you can't keep it in your care.
If that is what you mean, it seems extreme, as this limits you to only recreational use. Some run errands and/or commute.

You failed to preface it as relating to high-dollar bikes, but I see that is also what you were referring to based on your response about not having a kickstand. So I also see you meant professional thieves. In which case there is nothing to "stop them".
I take many factors into account. Some areas I would not even ride through as there is a higher risk of being bike-jacked. That happened to me as a teen.
So did I give up riding nice bikes since there is no way to stop a determined thief? Nope. My best solution is self-defense if I am physically attacked. But if they have the drop on me, it's "Take my bike.".
I generally use mine for recreation/exercise. But if I stop at a cafe or lunch spot and lock it up, I feel okay for brief periods. I would try to keep my eyes on it constantly if possible.
Again, many use their bikes for other things than recreation. They should understand there is always more risk even if locked up for any amount of time unattended.
And yes commuters and errand runners (quick pit stops) often ride nicer bikes.
We noticed while in NYC that they all take their seats along with them and some take their front wheels. Added deterrents, but still a risk. Just gives them another little extra to avoid thieves of opportunity. Pro thieves would of course carry a seat and a wheel to throw on plus their usual tools for this situation, because they are doing this as an income source.

By the way, the mature thing to do is thank someone who helps correct you. Take me for example. Just today, I posted something in the wrong forum, got called out, and owned right up to it. Thanked and repped the person. Things happen and you should not take it so hard, but editing is an option, and I do it all the time.

Do i trust the lock will prevent theft…nope. I use it as a deterrent to the less skilled thieves.
They also offer free keys.
I have a cheap $2500 FS MTB.
Do you experience any resting issues in the key slots? I am planning to put grease inside if I buy them. thanks.
