Heads up, for $10 more, you can get the Zwilling Four Star 8" Chef Knife directly from Zwilling's website and other sites like Macy's, Sonoma, and etc.

not every knife is for you, get chopping and have that blade slide up in your wet hand
and feel that slice burn as you discover you are now bleeding, you start appreciating a defined bolster. also why they make more than one version of a classic 8" chefs blade

Purchasing anything from Zwilling.com is asking for grief. Zwilling knives made in Solingen Germany are excellent. Look for Pro and Four Star. It's not available today at a reasonable discount but if I needed a good all around knife I would go for the 31119 Santoku 7" Four Star hollow edge or the 31118 fine edge Santoku.

Neither has that horrible bolster and both have thin strong blades which are perfect for very fine slicing with reduced effort. I've had a 31119 for several years and it's easily my go-to knife. Purchased as a cosmetic imperfection the 31119 is about $60 when available. The 31118 was $40 brand new in the last sale but sold out in hours. I scored one on Zwilling.com but of course it never shipped.

I have Henckels santoku knives from Germany, Spain, and China. The Spanish one blows the other two away on holding and edge and even making it through hundreds of dishwasher cycles.

Sue me for the dishwasher thing, but it's a testament to durability.

Definitely not the same, this made in Spain Henckels is easy to hone, keeps a sharp edge, and a huge upgrade to any standard block kitchen knife. We've had our Spanish Henckels as our main knife for almost 14 years and it's as good as day one still.

I have this exact knife and am pretty happy with it. It feels pretty much the same as my Zwilling Professional S but is much cheaper because this is the International series. The steel and hardening is not as good on this, but it works fine and just requires more sharpening and honing, which is easy once you learn what you are doing. The list price on here of $116 is completely and utterly absurd, I've never seen it over $60. For the price, I think it is a good choice, but there are some good sales on Zwilling Henckels Four Star and Pro S knives that are much better for not much more money.

Do not buy anything Henckels international. That is their licensed/low tier brand. It only takes advantage of the name and significantly dilutes the quality of the brand. If it's not their main line with two little guys (getting rarer and rarer to find) imagine it's the quality of an Amazon/home goods product.
