Build quality, higher end capacitors, better warranty, higher power, more inputs/outputs, more speakers, better room correction, better processing, and things like "Imax Enhanced", etc. Room correction seems to be a big thing on the forums these days and the best room correction is saved for the high end models.

Like a lot of things it's a quick improvement from super cheap to reasonable. After that you are paying for smaller and smaller improvements for a lot more money. As an engineer (not sound engineer mind you) I have always said the first 95% of perfection comes relatively cheap. That last 5% is really expensive. Yet some people are willing to pay a lot for that last 5%.

I own one as well... certainly an SDer would know to wait for the inevitable sales to come around. I think this is the lowest it's been. (I bought at $399).
Right when COVID hit, the AVRs were a great price but I was apprehensive spending money at that time đŸ¤”

That's the boat I'm in, I've got two old Yamaha receivers on my 3.1 and 5.1 systems. So I run my input devices (nvidia shield) at 1080p. And while both TVs seem to have decent upscalers I keep wondering if I'm leaving something on the table with the nvidia AI upscaling.

Long story short I'd love to get a new receiver (or two) that can handle 4k but I haven't shopped for one in so long I don't know what's good anymore. I've always like Yamaha. Never owned a Denon but have been a fan. I also see some Pioneer Elites on here as well.
Most Yamaha HTR-nnnn had every channel powered. If your HTR has Multi-Channel input, they can be used as Amplifiers until they die.

Both are entry level but I went with Denon as during thanksgiving this year, Adorama was not listed as authorized seller in Onkyo's website. Onkyo don't offer warranty if you don't buy from authorized seller. Things could have changed now and recommend to verify it.

Couldn't resist. Upgrading from a 10-year-old Yamaha RX-V375 ($180 at Newegg, ha), before the time of UHD, HDR, eARC, Dolby Vision & Atmos, DTS-X, etc. Hope Denon can deliver an equally awesome product that will keep eyes and ears happy for another decade. Reviews are fantastic. Thanks all.

Can I use this receiver with 6 ohm speakers? Would the power be more than 90w at 6 ohm?

Unfortunately I do not think mine do as I have the consumer level RX-V lines, I believe the 673 and 675. Otherwise that would be a great use for them as I retire them.

I have a very basic RX-V361 from 2007 and it has multi-channel inputs. I googled the differences between the RX-V and HTR lines and they didn't amount to much:
https://faq.yamaha.com/usa/s/article/U0002433

EDIT: I just looked up both your AVRs and they don't seem to have multi-channel inputs. (Holy cow, my old Yamaha is old... I just replaced it after 15 years.)

I was to get a Monroprice 5 channel amplifer(think it is 90+ watts/channel ). Then I came across some video about using the Multi-channel inputs with discrete channel powered old AVRs as amplifier. Had a Yamaha lying around for a while & it is useful now.

I couldn't find if they are an authorized dealer for Denon. Can you provide a link?

The TX-NR6050 is currently available for $50 less. I'm kinda on the fence between the two. There are people who say that the AVR-S970H is worth the extra money, even though the features are similar on paper.

A few advantages of the Denon:

* Smaller
* Better auto speaker calibration
* Fewer complaints about bluetooth
* Better reputation for reliability
* Adorama is an authorized Denon dealer, not sure about Onkyo

How does this compare to the s760h that Costco carries?
Yeah same Q. Wondering if I return the Costco s760H to save $34 and get this instead…
