Like a lot of things it's a quick improvement from super cheap to reasonable. After that you are paying for smaller and smaller improvements for a lot more money. As an engineer (not sound engineer mind you) I have always said the first 95% of perfection comes relatively cheap. That last 5% is really expensive. Yet some people are willing to pay a lot for that last 5%.
Right when COVID hit, the AVRs were a great price but I was apprehensive spending money at that time đŸ¤”

Long story short I'd love to get a new receiver (or two) that can handle 4k but I haven't shopped for one in so long I don't know what's good anymore. I've always like Yamaha. Never owned a Denon but have been a fan. I also see some Pioneer Elites on here as well.

EDIT: I just looked up both your AVRs and they don't seem to have multi-channel inputs. (Holy cow, my old Yamaha is old... I just replaced it after 15 years.)

I was to get a Monroprice 5 channel amplifer(think it is 90+ watts/channel ). Then I came across some video about using the Multi-channel inputs with discrete channel powered old AVRs as amplifier. Had a Yamaha lying around for a while & it is useful now.
A few advantages of the Denon:
* Smaller
* Better auto speaker calibration
* Fewer complaints about bluetooth
* Better reputation for reliability
* Adorama is an authorized Denon dealer, not sure about Onkyo
