Some items were free shipping, and some were only free shipping with $39 purchase; BUT I opened a chat and told them I had wanted the free shipping item that went OOS, and could they give me free shipping on a different item, and they did.

No, you've just read the SD staff's truncated version of the OP. The OP didn't promise free shipping on that item.
I posted this and was kind of shocked when SD made this a Frontpage Deal AFTER most of it was already out of stock.
Same question on whether these USB-C to USB-A cables work for CarPlay.
My sister has a 2019 Honda and iPhone 15 Pro. I want to set up wired CarPlay for her but from what I see the car only has USB-A ports.
I know CarPlay recognized my iPhone XS connected via the Apple Lightning to USB-A cable.
Also these would be nice to have around for slow overnight charging. I have so many of those white Apple 5w square chargers around.
PS: if these crap out and Monoprice won't honor the warranty you can recycle them in-store at Staples. They give you $5 store credit the following month.
These should be great for CarPlay (or look for an even shorter version to keep the wires to a minimum)
Well... you arrived late for the party.
It USED to be much better. Their cables were topnotch.
They offered the highly sought Oxygen-Free 100% Copper speaker wire but now there has been reports that it's actually CCA !
Their other cables are not as durable and long lasting as they used to be.....
