I've had this alert set up on triple camel for an entire year, and it FINALLY went on sale.

The big win with these is:
- It works perfectly with Home Assistant without the need for an Aqara hub.
- It works perfectly without a neutral wire, which is highly typical of homes built more than 20 years ago.

Artificial deal, when they are 40 they always have a coupon available. 30-33 is standard price.

Any zigbee hub should work with these. I'm currently using them with zigbee2mqtt and home assistant.

You should mention hub required if you go the extra mile to mention no neutral.

Two questions...

1. If this device requires Wi-Fi, it presumably consumes power. How does the power flow then without neutral, into the ground wire or something? Into ground would be not up to code. This makes no sense to me, how the heck does it work, on batteries or something?

2. Have there been any way discovered to operate these without hub or cloud? I don't want devices that snitch on me. If there's an API I could tap into, that would be a sale

I have the no-neutral double rocker (currently $36 w/ coupon) installed and paired to my Hubitat - both switches have been working flawlessly for over a year now.

Meh. If it's Wi-Fi, go Shelly. Choose any switch you want. I'd also say Shelly has a better track record than Aqara when it comes to supporting integrated IOT ecosystems. They're also great for local control. Not sure if Aqara Wi-Fi devices offer that.

1. They don't necessarily require WiFi because they use a zigbee radio but most apps that control them use some form of WiFi. My understanding is that non-neutral switches work by keeping the current on the line just below the power required to turn on the light in the circuit but strong enough to keep the radio active. Once the radio receives the signal to flip the switch it increases the power and the light turns on.

2. You will need a hub for this because it lacks WiFi but your hub can be managed however you like. You can keep your hub off the cloud pretty easily with home assistant but it's not super user friendly it definitely has a learning curve.

I hope this was clear I know it's a bit complicated to setup.

I have 4 of these installed in combination with the Aqara door/window sensors to automate closet lighting - no issues with them. My house is ~60 years old and those 4 closet light switches are wired as "switch legs" with no neutral in the switch box.

This is a good price - I paid $33 a piece for my switches.

I use them with an Aqara M2 hub, with the closet automations set up directly in the Aqara app, and they are also exposed to Home Assistant through HomeKit, like the previous poster.

my parents house is wired the same way so i ripped out all the wiring and rewired the whole house lol

User error or faulty unit. Using them for years with no issues with aqara hub at first, then deconz, and zigbee2mqtt sonoff stick. Working perfectly.

Aqara (xiaomi) is market leader for zigbee iot end user devices, and one of the first ever to offer cheap and good devices on a mass scale. Whoever is into home automation knows about aqara and their track record. They are by no means a no name brand. Also almost all of their (xiaomi and their umbrella companies) devices support local APIs from day one (including the hubs), meaning no cloud required if you're using something like homeassistant, habitat etc..
