Holiday decorations already down, you?

70,256 5,366 December 27, 2023 at 06:42 AM in Question
Yeah, I guess I put up Christmas decorations up too early this year and was just so tired of it all I took it all down last night after work,

The strings of lights that I draped over some bushes are unplugged for the season but still outside since it's all rainy here. When it's drier I'll bundle them off and store in the garage all balled up lol alongside the Halloween lights Stick Out Tongue

They will have to stay that way until spring when I can move some stuff out of the garage and reorganize.

Some people put their trees up on Christmas day and leave them up for the following month.
What about all of you? If you put up decorations are they still up and how long will you leave them up?

It's still up. The newest cat knocked over one of my smaller trees again today. That's like the 3rd or 4th time. So that might come down today. I would like to take it all down but I have too much to do.

And,yes, much harder to put it all up and down alone. DH had surgery in early November which meant he could do nothing. Couldn't climb the ladder for outside lights, couldn't bring the boxes up from the basement. Also shortly after the surgery we had some basement flooding due to a plumbing issue. I feel like I moved everything in the storage part of the basement 4 times already. The kid goes back to school on the 9th so if it's not down by then that'll be the day. But I'm done looking at it all.
Great to hear from you Red. Applause

I hope your DH recovers quickly from his procedure.

Christmas STARTS om the 25th and goes to the 6th

I have no idea why people start putting stuff up the day after Halloween then take it down before New Years

Some put everything up around Halloween to celebrate the fall season and/or to get a jumpstart on holiday decorations while they have time. New Years Day signals the end of the holiday season and many people are simply over it all in the days following Christmas. It can be a really stressful time of the year even if you aren't traveling or seeing family.

Lights and tree go up the day after Thanksgiving. Tree gets put away the 26th.
Since it still gets dark pretty early here, lots of us in the neighborhood leave the lights up for a while. I did unplug the laser projector on the 26th too, but the lights along the roof line are still up.

Our #$%@ HOA sent out a reminder that all outdoor decorations have to be put away within two weeks after Christmas.

Were you of sound mind at the time you signed the HOA paperwork??
Just wondering if you can contest it Big Grin

We thankfully only have a double sided page of our CC&R's for this house.

Dealing with the Sun City mgmt for my parents house was a not a pleasnt experince.

HOA's can be undone and they should be. When you buy your home you shouldn't have to keep paying for it once the mortgage is over.

among other things my hoa fee covers trash pickup, landscaping, snow removal and (almost) anything that happens on the exterior of my home. this includes the roof replacement they did about 6 years ago so definitely ongoing services that are provided even after the mortgage is paid. in general if one wishes to try to influence the rules the better way is to get elected to the board (or buy somewhere that does not have one).

You're very lucky then. In most places that's not how it works. My mom paid off her house decades before she passed and continued to pay the HOA thousands per year. At 75, the park, pool, and tennis courts were too small, too far from the house, and swamped with kids. I think the most the HOA ever did is some community fence repair, painting house numbers on the curb, and painting mailboxes.
