Cool. Go ahead and link the better deal you've found that's in the race, so to speak.

No offense intended. But I went back a year and found exactly zero Ryzen 7 5800X desktops posted for less than $1000. So this is literally the best price ever posted for this computer, by hundreds of dollars. To say it's not in the race is a bit off the mark, in my opinion. It's not the latest and greatest, but it's also not 2 grand.

There are lots of opinions in these comments sections, some well informed and others shooting from the hip. A couple of great resources for factual data on tech like this are YouTube and Amazon reviews, where actual owners discuss their ownership experience, upgrades, performance, and gripes. It's usually also a great opportunity to see interior layout, like RAM slots and SATA/M.2 ports available, hard drive expansion bays, PCIe slots, etc. Some of the tech channels do more in-depth testing and benchmarking with standard programs and while gaming. Sort of gives you an idea of what to expect prior to the cash outlay of a purchase. Since a lot of any desktop's performance is driven by the CPU, there are also CPU benchmarking and comparison websites with in-depth information, as well as GPU data. You probably already know most of what I'm saying here, but if it's posted publicly like this it might help someone make a better informed decision, rather than possibly being misled by opinions that aren't based on facts.
No, actually, this is really helpful. Trying to buy PC parts is so overwhelming the INSTANT I go to the comments section. Oh this looks like a nice card...."Are you kidding you can get 15% more CAFR out of a 2X overdrive Nvidia as long, of course, that you have DDR4 support on the bios without overlooking THR capabilities. Long story short, this card sucks, you suck, and you should feel bad."

You have to have thick skin around here. And the last part of your reply made me laugh; I've seen it too many times. I usually read the comments on my deal posts, and I keep my thoughts to myself more often than not. Some people want to argue about the most insignificant things, and bickering at that level serves no purpose. If I posted that they're giving away new Ferraris, someone would whine about having to pay for insurance. At some point it becomes just noise that you try to ignore.

That assumes someone would want specifically a 5800x CPU. And if you are buying a 5800x prebuilt you probably don't care about what CPU specifically you are getting so a direct comparison is kinda a moot point. Similarly performing computers or betters computers have been at this same price as either new or with a better warranty.

Any pre-built in this performance to cost ratio should at least have DDR5 so you can have upgrade options, this one is a dead-end since the 5800x is the best CPU for that socket short of the 5800x3d

It's not a bad deal at all. It just is not a great deal. It's Meh (pun not intended).
Now we are closer to agreement on your points. DDR5 and a newer socket/CPU are definitely preferable, but those $$$$ add up quick in that space. I just post the low prices I see on this or that. You all get to decide if it's right for you. Somewhere out there is a guy who has decided that this is the one he wants, and is waiting for a good price to come along. Prices for this MSI elsewhere can easily leave you several hundred dollars lighter in the wallet.

Here's an example. Same desktop with 1TB SSD new at Best Buy is on clearance for $1274.99:

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/msi-...Id=6489656

Funny thing is, the 5600X posted at the same time, which is measurably less impressive, went Frontpage at $100 less. You never know what people are going to want or like.

5800 or ~7600. Pcie 4 or 5. Ddr4 or 5. Doesn't really matter much, at least in the gaming space. Not low enough to be considered for the poors, not anywhere near a master race build, not enough of a delta for anyone to brag about. There hasn't been enough of a leap in hardware and developers aren't being hindered on that side because they're developing primarily for weaker console hardware anyway.

And what kind of ddr5 amd refurb deal would exist in 2023 anyway.

Way too high of prices for a DDR4 refurb with these specs. If it was at least a DDR5 board we could enter the race.
This is also available for $100 less with woot unless I'm missing something in the specs

Can I play mine sweep with this?
Of course it will run that, Mine Sweeper on the other hand might be too hard on the system. Especially if Clippy is running.

Literally, or just as an experiment to identify component cost?
I did not actually purchase the parts lol, but was curious so I was able to find all of the correct MSI components on there.

Graphics-wise, this is the RTX 4060 Ti level performance. CPU-wise, it's close to i5-13400F. Funny that your other deal is getting more attention. I would've sprung the extra $100 to get this: The better CPU and the bigger SSD seem to be worth it.
Hi, looks like the was a link to "this: ", but maybe it was removed? I would like to see this other system for $100 more that was mentioned. TY

This R7 5800X is the one that's $100 more. The other one was $699 and an R5 5600X in basically the same desktop. It's now sold out. Link:

I bought one of these Aegis models from woot, not this particular one ( i7 12 series, rtx 3080 ) and these things run really hot, even with the AIO cooler this model shown would be even worse because the intake on front is just a little sliver. However amd might run much cooler than nvidia graphics... I have never owned one so i cant say. Personally I think its just a badly designed case for airflow.

I generally don't upgrade these badboys.

By the time you're at the upgrade pathway, for 800 dollars, are you going to just put a nice GPU? I generally just buy the next good deal for the cpu/gpu performance. Bottlenecks will always be there, so upgrading one or the other tends to be not helpful.

I generally buy midrange pcs for my kids and forget about them for 4-6 years and just buy a new one at 4-6 years. My kids are now in high school got walmart 4060 deal for 699.

If I didn't get that, I would have got these - specifically because I plan not to upgrade it. They had their first mid level pcs in 4-5th grade. and now they are 10-11th. They were were on 4770 and 6600k, with 1070 / 1070ti.

Just googled this "rx 6700 xt equivalent to nvidia" and seems this one closes to RTX 3060 only... (no Ti)

6700xt is near/at 3070 performance if not using ray tracing, def above the 3060/ti in most games
