FYI, everyone should be buying Tapo from here on out. TP-Link is going to be phasing out Kasa switches. While the Kasa switches will remain for sale, there is not going to be major upgrades to the switches.

Kasa switches can be added to the Tapo app, but not vice versa. The phasing out is the reason.

I had a bunch of TP link switches and plugs , and ended up buying a bunch of Tapo plug's for Christmas lighting. All the devices showed up automatically in the Tapo app with their schedules in tact. It adds a few things I don't recall seeing in Kasa like device run time. I'd say I like the Tapo app design slightly more.

Geez I have no less than 20 of the Kasa switches. Trying to decide when Matter will actually matter to my home.

Anyone know if these use screw/push in terminals or wires with pigtails and nuts/wagos? I have some of the latter style and the poor front screws are holding on to the sockets for dear life with all the wires jammed behind them. I could see having a lead for neutral so you can splice it in but you should at least be able to just pop in the hot lead.

Does anyone know if the outdoor plugs are 5ghz compatible? Didn't see it in the specs.

Will these work in the Kasa app? I have a lot in there already and wanted to try a couple with matter to control with a button like Tuo. I'm not aware of a battery remote control that can turn on/off my Kasa switches and Tuo looks promising but requires Matter.

EDIT: Searched and found out Tapo app is required and Kasa devices show up there but not the other way around.

Any feedback from Kasa users that went to Tapo? Works just as well?

The non dimmer ones I have installed have wires to pigtail. If your outlet box is too small, you might want to consider replacing it with a deeper one. Depends how much effort you want to spend. Lowe's has some old work boxes which allows you screw into a stud: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Southwir...5001937965

As per reviews, home hub is needed, sold separately.

Repeat after me: no Matter how promising some new tech sounds or how good of a deal it seems like, Zigbee is the way.

(That's mostly a "note to self". May or may not apply to you. Also, I might be full of shit. It's happened.)
I think you meant Zwave... common mistake.

You don't want 5ghz on a low bandwidth device. You want maximum range and lowest power which, between 2.4 and 5ghz the obvious choice is 2.4ghz. Lower the frequency the better.
