A plane has a shaving blade. This is a rasp which has no blade more like a file.

This is Craftsman calling a drywall rasp and Plane to try and upsell a product that's been around for 50 years. This is a rasp for drywall-that's it. No carpenter is using a drywall rasp for end grain work like they claim in the description. You are 100% correct and Craftsman just calls this tool something it isn't.

Solid deal. Looks useful for tuning drywall edges and light duty wood trimming.

Link I provided...Craftsman direct website...See photo w/packaging red background..Label states" Rasp Pocket Plane". Under Details & Features section, it states "EASE OF USE: Includes thumbscrew blade tension for quick blade"

Would it be useful to shave the top of a sticking door? Currently at a relative's without necessarily tools.

Now that I read the one star ratings there is enough concern it will not work to shave the door that it is a no buy.

Yes, I've used this for shaving doors.

This is similar to a cheese grater. It has many blades, so it is still technically a plane, but it's certainly not what most would think of for this. A rasp is simply a coarse file with teeth. This is categorically not a rasp; it is a plane.

A rasp is a file with cut teeth. A plane is a flattened straight edge (plane) with a cutting blade(s) that lets shavings pass through the blade in the plane.

People can call it a rasp, but it's truly a plane. Just like how a small grater is called a "microplane".

Exactly this. I own an almost identical product and you cannot plane wood with it. A planar shaves the wood. This product simply scrapes off whatever you use it for. The so called cheeser grater I have is worthless for shaping hard wood but great for drywall. Call it whatever you like this sucks as a planar.
