I would say that you can get some cool shots with the camera, but you will need to spend quite some time to learn the editing software and nuances. Not only that, but depending on what you're using it for, like snowboarding, it can be difficult to get the right angles. I think the angles it gets are awesome, and 360 is really cool. It allows you to collect a ton of b roll footage quickly. But editing everything can become incredibly time consuming. If you're new to editing and action cams, just stick with GoPro. If you're an advanced editor, content maker, influencer, etc then this will definitely add those extra awesome angles that gopros don't. One more thing I'll mention is that the camera itself gets heavy when extended on the stick. I can do 2-3 snowboarding runs then I put it away.

The deal is good on this though. I paid a little more around BF sale time.

I wish Costco would sell more DJI products like their action cam and Osmo Pocket 3. They sell their drones...

Totally agreed. The concept is awesome, but the reality is it's kind of a pain in the ass. I dropped mine and got a tiny nick on one of the lenses. It bothered me so much that I seriously considered doling out the $180 or whatever it was to get it repaired. I researched how to repair it myself and even with as much fine electronics repair experience as I have, it's a daunting task. Like almost impossible for most human beings without the right materials. So I compromised and bought a diamond polishing compound to buff it out, which I successfully did, but not without causing two new annoyances: 1) There's no anti-glare coating on one lens now so the stitch seam is obvious, 2) it's an ultra wide angle lens and to remove even the slightest amount of material alters the focus/sharpness so it is now blurry in the edges of that side. 😞

It upset me so much I haven't really touched the thing in over a year.

It's a very niche camera. I'd like to use it more, but the editing part is where I don't have the time to get the shots I want to do. I have all the gadgets: Osmo Pocket 1 & 3, X3, and DSLR's. The X3 gets the least love from me at the moment.

I've only used it on a couple trips, but haven't taken too much time to learn the editing. I'll get into it, eventually.. but I do think for average or basic video editors.

It's hard to do with a 1 year old who wants to grab the camera every time I use it & I'm scared he will crack the sensitive 360 lens lol.

This camera isn't quite a sports action camera because you have to be super careful about the inner and outer lenses. One wrong move and you'll leave permanent gashes or crack the glass completely. I bought the metal cage that goes around this camera but really, you don't want to knock this thing around or drop it. The lens replacements require a complete camera teardown, otherwise, you'll have to deal with epoxy.

They do sell protective plastic to cover the glass but your image will slightly get worse with them on (you'll notice this from lights or from direct sun). There's even a setting on the cam to compensate the stitching effect for the plastic lens covers. Despite the lowered image quality, the plastic insurance of a scratch-free glass is worth it in my opinion. The only time when one should ever use this camera with bare glass is indoors and very well clamped to a fixture.

It's a novel camera but I don't like having to baby this thing around all the time especially when my focus is on a fun vacation. Regular GoPros are excellent in that regard.

Also owner of 360-deg Xiaomi, Ricoh Theta, Samsung Gear VR.
there's a tempered glass protector now. WAY better.

In for one for my trip to Rio's carnaval. I hope I don't get robbed for it.

I have the first generation and mainly used it for bullet time and still shots. I did only a couple of 360 videos for riding around my oneWheel.

I've had the X3 for a bit over a year and purchased it based on reviews I found on the net. Let me tell you there really isn't a review out there that exposes all the drawbacks of the camera (most reviewers got theirs for free). It's a novel product, built well, but severely limited by the low resolution and light sensitivity of the sensors. While I believe that not having to frame shots due to the 360 capture is the future, the image sensors need another couple of generations before most people will not be disappointed when looking at the exported footage on something bigger than a cell phone. Also, the lenses are notoriously fragile and not user replaceable, on what is supposed to be an "action camera". It's quite heavy for its size and, along with the candy bar form-factor, more difficult to mount than the typical action cam, on say, a helmut. Videos taken in anything but bright light have terrible IQ. I went for a day run in the woods with it and for each clean-looking frame there are two that look like smeared watercolors.

Not saying not to buy it, especially if you're only going to view the footage on a cell-phone screen, just get it from a retailer that allows returns if you don't have prior experience with it - do not buy from Insta360 directly. I've gotten some sweet angles while snowboarding with mine, but if I had to do it again, I would wait for the next gen (or two) beyond the X3.

Perfect timing. I was just looking at just the camera for $405 at BestBuy (before it went back to $450), but this is an even better deal. Thanks!

The 360 camera will not be the candidate for substantial improvements until there's sufficiently more demand to bring down costs.

For Costco to carry these, this niche market has gotten a great start.

For super premium needs, the Insta360 One RS is $800 and has dual 1" sensors. These camera manufacturers can do it but (as we've been all saying here) it's a niche product.

For now, smartphone users with gimbals are still ahead on this competition. They're the A-Roll people. This 360 cam will remain a super good B-Roll format because you'll 100% get it in frame.

every year I make one grand trip and for 2023 I bought this with lot of accessories and dji osmo 3. I make youtube videos and I use osmo/phone for that and I use insta360 for personal memories. insta360 would require lot of editing to choose it as main stream camera for content creation. That being said phone app is very useful to edit content. I can easily edit home videos and love the fact that i don't have to point camera in any direction to capture moments. i bought backpack mount and use it where ever i travel so no moments are missed. its little heavy and large for my use but for me capturing family moments or personal experiences is more important. if you have budget for only one camera, I would not recommend insta360.

OK I'll buy both the RS and the X3 for my bucket list trip, then. I can always sell them afterwards.

i severely underestimated how hard using mounts would be. You think, oh i'll just buy a chest mount or something, and it never turns out how you think. Also think ahead about your audio quality.

I mainly bought my gopro for quick <1 minute fish videos and to mount something on my corvette for racing around. Figuring out the correct mount w/ audio setup made me lose interest quickly lol.

FLEXIBILITY! I think this is what this camera has to offer. Having the ability to choose the shot, angle, Subject (with tracking), etc... during post editing instead of worrying about getting the shot while the action is going on is great. While skiing/snowboarding with a group, you can change focus to yourself, the person in front or back or to the views. While mountain biking, I've captured wild horses, hawks without even turning my head.

Yeah there's a learning curve to edit but if you keep it simple it's not much harder than a single FOV cam.

I got the accidental warranty so I don't have to worry about the lenses. The cage plus the lens covers ends up more expensive than the warranty.
