Moreover, when talking about gaming performance, 7800x3d loses to i7/i9 by mere single digit percentiles, frequently returns fire with similar winning differentials, AND the occasional 20-30% improvement in 1% lows etc. Top-tier gaming performance while rarely cracking 70 watts of package power? That is insane.
Worse for Intel gaming, as other Slicksters above mentioned, i7/i9 starts looking pretty terrible when you about system noise, SFF case build thermals, the extra budget needed to cool an i7/i9 versus slapping a cheap air cooler on a 7800x3d.
I'm not gonna go deep down the rabbit hole of linking, but the poster mentioning "double the cpu wattage" wasn't wrong. It's not typically that big of a difference, but depending on the game and GPU, "yes" 7800x3d can in fact offer equivalent or better performance to i7 at half the power (and making a complete mockery of i9) performance/watt metrics. Ditch the rtx 4090 that Steam surveys show almost nobody owns for more reasonable GPUs, and Intel 13600/7800x3d start looking like much better gaming values.

Now with all that said, IMO Intel's validation testing, long-term stability/compatibility, and better non-gaming performance are why I more often than not run Intel in my own rigs, but these past few years of Zen are up there with the glory days of AMD Athlon and I'll likely lean towards AMD if I build a new gaming rig in 2024. And when 7800x3d mobile becomes widely available, as long as AMD doesn't ask too high a price, I expect those laptops to offer beastly performance versus Intel. CES can't come soon enough!

As such, AMD has no answer for the capabilities of the 14700K or 14900K series.
Just gotta be sure if you're willing to be all-in on gaming, knowing that Intel is within a few FPS on 4K and Intel is overall a better performing product for the price.
Any top end cpu is going to be fine for what the consumer is looking for but the reality is that this is the best gaming cpu and that's what this thread is about. Nobody brought up productivity which again is super disingenuous to say this couldn't handle.
