I am building a new rig and can't afford to wait for 8000 series and also I have no need for anything better since this will not bottleneck even the next gen of GPU's.
Also
New 8000 equivalent will likely not have any deals for months after release.

But once they release them in about a month, it's possible to get better deals if possible. But if u need it now, you can get some cashback too. I thi k some websites have 4%, not sure but good luck

Intel has no answer for this chip. Currently

They just slap a "Gaming CPU" label on the the xx700/xx900K cpu and hope no one actually looks at real gaming benchmarks
Pretty uneducated take. AMD is barely ahead in gaming and loses massively in non-gaming performance compared to a similar priced i7-14700k. Here are the receipts to prove it:

In Multi-Thread productivity a 14700k is +90% faster than a 7800x3d [tpucdn.com]

In Single Thread productivity (most normal apps) a 14700k is 19% faster than a 7800x3d [tpucdn.com]

At 1080 the 7800x3D is 5% faster than a 14700k when using a 4090 [tpucdn.com]

At 1440p the 7800x3D is 4% faster than a 14700k when using a 4090 [tpucdn.com]

At 4k the 7800x3D is 0.5% faster than a 14700k when using a 4090 [tpucdn.com]

There's pros and cons going with either Intel or AMD. Advantage to AMD is being way more energy Efficient and having several years of an upgrade path on AM5. The fact that AMD is STILL supporting AM4 into 2024 is mind blowing. Intel 14th gen is end of the road and another new motherboard will be out down the road for 15th gen. But if you want something NOW then there's good options out there for both but just depends on what kind of work loads your doing and needing

Also the 14700k is quite a bit more expensive fyi.

It's more like 30-50% increased power draw for Intel over amd not double. Which is still significant. The 7800x3d is impressive at what it does while drawing 60-66w. And the 14700k can be anywhere between 95 and 150+ depending on the game which seems like alot for a cpu
I'd like to point out to people why energy efficiency is so important. It's not because it draws less power from the wall, though that is a bonus. What energy efficient really means in a processor is the ability to cool it, thus allowing the chip to run at full speeds without throttling to a lower speed due to over heating. In a laptop this effect is multiplied due to the constraints placed on the cooling system due to the nature of the available space in a laptop.

8000 series may be APU-only parts to cover the low end of the market when AM4 stock finally runs out.

I get where you are coming from in terms of squashing the regurgitated fanboy 7800x3d hype, but your post is a bit silly. What fool buys an x3d cpu for productivity? it's a gaming cpu lol. Does anyone care about rtx 3080 performance in MS Office?

Moreover, when talking about gaming performance, 7800x3d loses to i7/i9 by mere single digit percentiles, frequently returns fire with similar winning differentials, AND the occasional 20-30% improvement in 1% lows etc. Top-tier gaming performance while rarely cracking 70 watts of package power? That is insane.

Worse for Intel gaming, as other Slicksters above mentioned, i7/i9 starts looking pretty terrible when you about system noise, SFF case build thermals, the extra budget needed to cool an i7/i9 versus slapping a cheap air cooler on a 7800x3d.

I'm not gonna go deep down the rabbit hole of linking, but the poster mentioning "double the cpu wattage" wasn't wrong. It's not typically that big of a difference, but depending on the game and GPU, "yes" 7800x3d can in fact offer equivalent or better performance to i7 at half the power (and making a complete mockery of i9) performance/watt metrics. Ditch the rtx 4090 that Steam surveys show almost nobody owns for more reasonable GPUs, and Intel 13600/7800x3d start looking like much better gaming values.

https://www.guru3d.com/review/int...ew/page-6/

Now with all that said, IMO Intel's validation testing, long-term stability/compatibility, and better non-gaming performance are why I more often than not run Intel in my own rigs, but these past few years of Zen are up there with the glory days of AMD Athlon and I'll likely lean towards AMD if I build a new gaming rig in 2024. And when 7800x3d mobile becomes widely available, as long as AMD doesn't ask too high a price, I expect those laptops to offer beastly performance versus Intel. CES can't come soon enough!

For us in hotter climates, not dumping an extra 100+ watts of waste heat into my room is a huge difference also as it also compounds AC costs when you're already paying over 50 cents per kilowatt, thanks to SDGE prices.

Ryzen 8000 series is due for release in this quarter, so definitely more price drop is coming in these few months. I'm waiting for the new series
It is unlikely that anything in the q2 release will rival the 7800x3d I don't even think they're going to be desktop cpus. Maybe it's because the 5000 series is still am4 but the 7000 series had exactly zero impact on 5000 series prices. Kinda weird.

For gaming sure, but some people do buy computers and use them for other things (eg video editing, multi-threaded app computation)

As such, AMD has no answer for the capabilities of the 14700K or 14900K series.

Just gotta be sure if you're willing to be all-in on gaming, knowing that Intel is within a few FPS on 4K and Intel is overall a better performing product for the price.
pretty garbage take. First, we're talking about a gaming cpu. Second. The notion that this wouldn't perform exceptionally well in productivity for 99.9% of all pc users is disingenuous. It's like when people say my 5900x can't game. It can handle every game I've thrown at it with ease. Just like the 7800x3d can handle every common productivity task thrown at it with ease but slightly worse than a higher core count processor.

Any top end cpu is going to be fine for what the consumer is looking for but the reality is that this is the best gaming cpu and that's what this thread is about. Nobody brought up productivity which again is super disingenuous to say this couldn't handle.
