I'm Asian and I like expensive rice cookers. I received one of these as a Christmas gift. This is not a good general rice cooker. It is good for a specific purpose. It is labeled as a 20 cup cooker. It's really 7 cups I think and 4 cups if you are using carb smart.

It has a feature called carb smart. It basically steams your rice.

All the excess starch hangs out in the water below.

It's great for basmati rice. It's super fluffy. You don't need to rinse or soak it even.

It's not great for calrose. The keep warm feature isn't good and makes the rice super mushy. I rinse my calrose until it's clear so the carb smart doesn't really accomplish much.

Either way, it's a pretty good deal here. I wouldn't want it as my only rice cooker though. It's not going to replace a high end zojirushi.

I see this price at my store, however, I wanted to note that the retail price shown as the "strike through" price is $49.88.

If you make rice with any kind of frequency just pony up for a Zojirushi, Tiger, or Cuckoo. They are expensive but for damn good reasons.

What's your opinion on it compared to something like this?

Cuckoo 6 cup (uncooked)/12 cup (cooked) Rice Cooker, 10 Menu Options: Oatmeal, Brown Rice & More, Touch-Screen, Nonstick Inner Pot, CR-0605F, White/Silver https://www.walmart.com/ip/2433060172

Cuckoo is a good brand. No personal experience with that model though.

Thanks for the suggestions with basmati rice. Always wanted to make tender and fluffy basmati like they make in restaurants. But was never able to cooking it the normal way. Hoping this will work. Any other suggestions you may have to make it fluffy and not sticky or squishy?

If I may ask what's your water to rice ratio for this mode?

I am just gonna say this like I did in another thread

Instant pot pressure cook rice is the real way to cook rice anymore for me

1:1 rice:water (no matter the rice type)
Wash to get as much white starch off rice
Cook 3 min
Pressure off for 10 mins

Perfect rice every single time.. and way less time and pressure cooking is a good way to make rice in general

If you already have an instant pot the only thing you might buy is the nonstick pot dedicated for rice cooking - Instant Pot Ceramic Inner Slow Cooking Pot 6-Qt, Non-Stick Coated Interior, Rice Cooker https://a.co/d/gFDGzb6

Pressure cooker makes the rice squishy isn't it.
