True or False: An external drive such as this, attached to an Xbox Series X|S, only allows one to *store* games, but not *run* them directly from this drive (and we have done directly with the Xbox One). For running, I think I've read that one must move the game over to the internal drive from this first, then move it back if more internal drive space is required later.

No personal experience with that yet, so I raise the question.

For Xbox Series X|S you cannot run games from anything other than the WD or Seagate licensed xbox expansion card because of quick resume.

Moving games from the external Western Digital or any other drive is much faster than downloading the game again over the internet. I have 500/500 fiber service and I usually see between 35MB/s and 55MB/s downloads on the Xbox Series X. I'm seeing a consistent 85MB/s transfer on a WD_BLACK P10 5GB external drive.

You can play Xbox One and 360 downloadable games directly from these external drives.

Depends on the game.

Xbox did it exactly like PlayStation but less clear. PS4 hard drive, PS5 NVME.

When it comes to XBOX, if the game has Series X support then it needs to be on a NVME. Internal storage or the NVME add on.
But games that are still classified as last gen will run from an external hard drive.

I have a 6tb hd on my Series X and last gen games from it.

You only see 35mbps to 55mbps on your series x? I get 300 mbps wired and a little over 100 mbps wireless on my series x, and know my friends who pay for faster Internet get more than that too.

They said they were getting "35MB/s and 55MB/s" which would be equal to "280 Mbps and 440 Mbps." The 85MB/s transfer speed they mentioned would only be matched by downloading with at least a 680Mbps connection (with consistent and fast write times).

12TB, but HDD instead of SDD. Seems like quantity over quality, right? Just started shopping for around 4TB to add to my Series X, preferably 1GB/sec transfer or better.

I used to use the 8TB version with my PS5 (before I put in a 4TB SSD expansion). It's a loud drive, but it has fast transfer speeds.

Instead of saying 350 Mbps/s, you can say 35 MB/s and mean the same thing. 1,024 Mbps/s is the same as 125 MB/s. I have 500 Mbps/s up and down service.

On your screen for the xbox, the transfer speed is measured in Mbps whether its from the Internet or disk to disk transfer.
